Just got the short treks DVD

I was thinking of treating myself to this, as the second season of Short Treks have not been released in the UK and I’m far too lazy and law abiding to seek other methods of finding them (predominantly lazy!). It’ll be first time I’ve bought a Trek DVD in ages! When I was a teenager I used to use all my pocket money so I could buy TNG and DS9 on VHS (the UK was a good few years behind US screenings).

I expect Children of Mars will be on Picard S1. But they should have included it here too. Having some mini-episode be on 2 different dvds is OK. They have already done that with some of the Discovery ones.

Random thought on "Children of Mars"

It wouldn't fit in with Synthetics storyline or with the ol' Star Trek optimism thing, but I think a darker ending would have been interesting.

What about this? Imagine the story is completely separate from Picard, but it plays out exactly the same till the very end. While the two girls are holding hands and watching the devastation of Mars, it cuts to new footage showing aliens of the same race as the little girl carrying out the attack. Quick shot of the girls faces. Quick shot of their hands coming apart. Cut to black.

They're the children of Mars, after all. Not Venus.

Fwiw, The Escape Artist is still my favorite of the shorts. I hate Mudd, but the ending was great.

What does fun have to do with watching Star Trek. Are jobs are to be guardians of continuity and not let other things distract from that. :)

Well obviously d'uh........

But I've seen fans who obsess about details like the outside doors on the Enterprise D are sloped but the hanger doors are at 90 degrees when viewed from the inside. People obsess about such details

Those guys aren't so much the canon hounds though I guess some of them are. Those are more of science and tech fans who love all the little details. Who own all the tech manuals and likely made lots of models and gadgets for fun. I think these things are kind of good actually because I bet lots of folks who go into science and join NASA or work on special effects in Hollywood likely started off being into these kind of things when they were kids.

But it's a pretty grungy thing to gripe about. The studio sets obviously were built that way for a reason. In reality the wall where the door is should have sloped but it didn't so you just have to accept it.

Having a Trek series that is the visual equivalent to short sci-fi stories in literature has greatly expanded the experimental variety of Trek storytelling. Not all of the stories are perfect, but diversity is a healthy aspect of new Trek!
