TOS Prequel #4

Well fuck, Mount looks like he could be related to Hunter. What more do you want?
CGI recreations of Jeffrey Hunter and other cast members of "The Cage" as well as accurate reproduction of the sets, writing, and filming styles.

Basically, I want it to be like they found a bunch of episodes locked away in a vault and are just now releasing them.

That's what I want.

Star Trek Continues, then? Cos that's how they felt.

Simply an unattainable goal. You might be able to CGI the cast and recreate the sets, but the writing and filming styles will be of people who weren't remotely thought of when "The Cage" was being produced.

We are products of our world, and the world of the writers and directors of "The Cage"/TOS is long gone.

Personally I'm not interested. I'll wait for a proper prequel that actually fits with the original series.

That is literally never going to happen. Would it be cool? Sure. But it's not going to happen.

Ever.

I wonder if I've gotten old enough to just not accept Trek past a certain vintage...

Or, maybe those at the reigns now simply don't get the point of Star Trek. I think it's more likely...

In your case, I would say you've just outgrown Trek. Nothing wrong with that. I still vividly remember the day I realized I liked Babylon 5 better than the then current Trek's. Hell, just telling my kid brother that I thought it was better than the current Trek's made him give it a chance because I'd had a deep love for Trek (well, mainly the original) for as long as anyone in my family could remember. Like there is literally no point in my childhood, all the way back to my dimmest, earliest memories, where I didn't love the original Trek. My family certainly remembers it.

The point is, I didn't feel compelled to keep watching DS9, VOY or ENT when I felt like they were mediocre, shit or absolute shit (in that order per series). I moved on to something else, and would occasionally check back in to see what was up, but there was no purpose in continuing to watch something that I didn't like no matter how much or how long I loved and put into an older version of it.

I've heard all the rationalizations from people and the reality is that it's time a lot of them just moved on.

I should probably move on, but Trek gave me so much in my formative years that it is hard to completely let it go. I keep coming back, hoping for something that I don't think the current PTB can ever give me.

There are things I really enjoyed about STC, but as the series progressed it really felt like they were hellbent on connecting-the-dots rather than doing TOS style stories. There were things I would have loved to see them do along with things I really wish they hadn't done.

Sigh.... another MSTGA

Why? I mean, I'm as devoted and fanatical a TOS and ENT fan as you can probably find and I just don't see how a prequel to TOS could have been made without something looking like it was made in a studio prop department in or around the year 2001 or 2002. I love the classic look of TOS and I'm on record saying that the DSC reimagining of the Enterprise changes too much for the sake of change but let's face it: ENT was not going to have a '60s aesthetic and what we got was as close to TOS as we were going to get since no prequel series was made in the 1970s.

ENT was that. Yes, the Romulans having cloaking technology in the 2150s can be rationalized.

ENT was basically TNG with different names. Hardly a good prequel. Setting aside the writing and acting, in my opinion it shouldn't have featured the Klingons, it should have been the ring ship, we shouldn't have seen the Romulans or cloaking device. No transporters, or phase(r) pistols, or polarized hull plating (aka shields), etc. I don't think an ST prequel has to have looked like the 60s to work. Technology is ST is generic enough that it can still seem pretty advanced.
I think it just needed to fit with the rest of the Star Trek universe, without requiring a lot of convoluted rationalizations. (Not saying that it would be error free).

Metal Storm Limited?

Make Star Trek Great Again!! MAGA!! MUEGA!

Another Star Trek show set in the "past". Why is everyone so scared to go beyond the familiar characters and look forward?

At least ENT explored a previously unexplored period in Earth and Starfleet history and had just one crossover character: Zefram Cochrane, who was already missing in space and presumed lost and dead for roughly 32 years by the time the first episode is set.

Is that what that means? Holy F@¢# I'm sick of this. Why does EVERYTHING have to be about Trump? Why can't people just shut up about it?

So now wanting a certain type of Star Trek is equivalent to MAGA now huh?
