The One Thing You Could Change...

I decided on a thought exercise for myself, and wanted to see what other people would come up with. I am going to do this for each series, except DISCOVERY and PICARD, as they are still currently in production.

Come up with only ONE thing you would change about a series. It can be something about a character, a storyline, or even something physical, like a different ship design. It can be anything you like, provided it would be used for more than just one episode.


I'm certain it's no secret by now that DS9 is my favorite of the STAR TREK shows. But I decided to start with this one, so I can be reasonably certain I'm being fair about this entire project.

I thought really hard about this, and I can honestly say the only thing I would change is seeing more Gamma Quadrant races and their technology. We got a good glimpse of that with the Wadi, the Tosk hunters, the guy from "SHADOWPLAY", the Argrathi, and obviously the Dominion.

I think it would have been really cool to see this.

 

[Bad Thoughts]

DS9: fill out the station with more Bajorans, like shopkeepers and a regular security staff, in order to make the connection to Bajor more meaningful.

If I could change just one thing about DS9 it would be no Mirror Universe stories after Crossover.

Jadzia shouldn't have been killed off. Instead she should have gotten a post on the Enterprise. Ezri should have been Jadzia's sister, not a Dax host.

Worf is a TNG character. Lets keep him there instead of bouncing him around between DS9 on TNG movies.

I have two ideas:

Idea A: No fucking Vick Fontaine. Or if he shows up he gets put in Airlock.

Idea B: Have Ezri show up sooner (Season 4) so that she can be developed more.

I can't help it, my hatred for Vick burns with the intensity of 1000 Ptah Wraiths. (mostly because I don't want any 20th century stuff in my scifi)

I mean what could be done would be to make him an Alien. Like a really, really interesting looking alien (something liek Trance from Andromeda), who for whatever, unfathomable reason likes mid-20th century lounge music and sings at Quark's. That would allow me to tolerate him.

No Ezri. There was only one season to go. There was no need for Ezri. I don't hate the actress. I don't hate the character. I hate that she was shoehorned into the last season and given episodes that could've been used for other stories in the final arc.

Afterimage could've been a final Bashir/Garak episode. Prodigal Daughter & Field of Fire are subpar episodes. Her voyage to find Worf and then having sex with him led us to the Breen storyline, but we could've gotten there a different way.

You subtract Ezri and you don't really lose much story wise.

During the montage in the finale, there should have been some shots of Jadzia as Worf and/or Sisko remembered her.

I would've killed off a significant character during season 7. It was too unrealistic that the whole cast would have survived being on the front line of this war for so long. Nog lost his leg and they made a big deal out of that, but it seemed like there wasn't enough of a cost. Maybe kill Garak instead of Damar at the end? That would be powerful, Kira sitting with Garak as he died.

The other good possibility I can think of at the moment would be Keiko.

There are some great episodes in DS9 and I really want to like the show more than I do.

But, many things mentioned here kind of ruin a lot of it....

At least the Ferengi start to get over their horrible misogyny towards the end of the series, under Grand Nagus Rom.
But yeah, keeping Kyra in a standard uniform (or at least nixing the high heels would be nice)

I would have found a way to keep Farrell on board for season 7 and let Jadzia live. Even if it meant she became a recurring guest star like Admiral Ross or Martok.
