I find the ratings info mildly interesting as was the info about how important the timeshift viewers apparently are.

A few random dumb thoughts:
- Mitch Pileggi pulls off the beard/bald combo better than Jon Cryer (I said they were dumb..)
- With my bad hearing it sometimes seemed like they were fighting Rom-Com which I found amusing. If anything Rom-Com should be an ally to Supergirl.

At first I thought the image on the playing cards in Nia's dream was Lex, but it was Rama Khan.

The whole idea of Lex having a beard seems strange to me, since traditionally the reason he's bald is that he had his hair follicles burned off in an accident (which, pre-Crisis, he blamed on Superboy). So is Arrowverse Lex bald by choice, or did the accident only affect the top of his head?

What about the time delay viewership? I know that does tend to save at least some shows, and I've noticed lately that they are putting an even bigger emphasis on it in the advertising, especially on The CW, so I think it's becoming even more important.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who thought this was an improvement.
I was shocked when they actually destroyed the DEO, I know it's been playing less of a role lately but I didn't expect them to completely destroy it. The big fight with Rahma Khan that lead up to the destruction was one of the best fights we've gotten in a while.
I think this was the most interesting Leviathan has been since they introduced them.
I have kind of mixed feeling on Lena's big apology to Kara. On the one hand I am glad she's come to her sense, and will possibly be rejoining the Super Friends, but I also hope they don't just brush everything that's happened under the rug.
I'm looking forward to what kind of new costume and mask they give Alex. I'm curious if she's going to end up taking on a superhero identity from the comics, or if she'll just be getting a new costume.

I doubt they will. Lena's whole arc through the series has been about trying to make amends for the evils of her family. Now she has some of her own to make amends for.

And the fact that Kara's response was so tentative -- offering her a seat, agreeing to cooperate, but staying cool and silent -- shows that she won't forgive and forget that easily. It will take time to rebuild trust between them.

I'm looking forward to what kind of new costume and mask they give Alex. I'm curious if she's going to end up taking on a superhero identity from the comics, or if she'll just be getting a new costume.

My suspicion is that she'll just take over the Guardian identity left vacant by James's departure. As we saw in Crisis, Kelly still has James's Guardian gear (at least his shield), so since she's the one suggesting the masked identity to Alex, it makes sense that she'd pass along the one already in her keeping, as it were.

I too approve of Kara's silent response to Lena's revelation. She didn't just send Lena away, she didn't just open her arms wide to welcome her back, and she didn't immediately call Alex thanking their lucky stars that Kara's own personal "anti-kryptonite suit" tailor was back on team superfriends.

I hope that Kara is keeping her mind open as she listens to Lena, weighing not just her words but the possibilities that Lena could still be playing her, like when they went to the Fortress of Solitude together.

The one thing I must say that seems to differ from most of the posters in the thread, is that I don't find the "Tech is Evil" thesis guiding season 5 to be correct. TPTB are not suggesting it's evil as much as they are saying it's "inadequate", nor do I think the current COVID -19 realities prove that thesis is wrong.

I think "hiding from your problems in a virtual reality" is wrong and that what one needs is more engagement, not less. On the CBS morning show yesterday, they were talking about how despite all the ZOOM meetings and virtual cocktail parties, people in isolation are experiencing skin hunger.

Consider what we've been complaining about missing in season 5, with or without technology there was not enough of the strong relationships weve come to know, not just between Alex and Kara, but also between Alex and J'onn J'onzz, Brainy and Dreamer, Kara and Lena.

What strikes me most about how this season has unfolded, is that it is a perfect example of skin hunger. I'm sure it's happened, but I can't recall the last time Alex hugged Kara or J'onn, or Kara hugged Lena. Has Kara ever hugged Dreamer? And while I understand why Brainy and Nia are separated, it again demonstrates what happens when your relationship is just a series of disengagments rather than engagements.

Tech isn't evil... it's inadequate to the task of truly binding us one to the other. If it wasn't, M'gann would have just called J'onn on the car phone from Mars.

For my part, I liked this episode, like I have like the previous one and as I would surely like the following, because FINALLY we get to the heart of the matter. It was time! Of course, we do not yet know all the ramifications regarding the Leviathan - I guess that we will know more maybe not in the next episode but rather, next season, as it seems that 5x19 will end on a cliffhanger. However, we know that Lex try to play on 2 boards to better reach his goals:
definitively defeat the Supers AND impose himself on the world as a savior, who would be endowed with powers so powerful that
no one could be above him. Even if I'm tired of Lex Luthor, his performer, Jon Cryer, is fantastic.

About Lena Luthor, I'm happy to have seen that she finally
regained her senses and stopped her Non Nocere Project and her collaboration with her brother. Her speech, afterwards when she was at Kara's was movin because sincere. She didn't try to hide behind muddy excuses. Yes, pain and anger can make you act
unreasonably., even if you have a IQ very above average. Now that Lena made the first steps, in offering sincere apologies and regrets for her actions since the revelation of Kara's identit,y
I'd like to see Kara doing the same, like admitting that she has a God complex and that her attitude was not exemplary either (that Lena's accusations of hypocrisy wasn't totally wrong and that attitude could upsetting Lena and confirming some of her fears about her name and its reputation).

About Alex, I still wonder what is her storyline this season. Deciding to be a vigilante like James Olsen has been since s2, why not but aren't we supposed to do something next, like having a job? In the same time, when I see J'onn Jozz, I wonder how
he earns his living since he rarely investigates as private detective, this season.
Anyway, I hope Alex's storyline as the new vigilante will be better than the one with Guardian. In the same time

About Wiliam/Kelly's investigation about Lex and his ramifications with Leviathan, it is boring. I have the feeling that they have been associated in this storyline because we didn't know what to do with them separately. Like Andrea who had several scenes in 5b with Kelly. Eve is much interesting because, she is the
common denominator between Lex and Leviathan. As discreet and "defenseless" she is, I think that she could do a lot of harm to these two L if she wanted to revolt. Until then she seemed rather submissive.A question though: was it Eve who spied on Alex and Kelly's friend then shot them in the basements of the building and then in the parking lot? I don't know why byt I think it is someone else. But in this case, who is he/she?

I have to admit I am enjoying John Cryer's portrayal of Lex Luthor. The scene where he snapped in front of Lena was well played, and it really showed how malevolent and maniacal Lex Luthor is.

Agreed. I didn't think Cryer had it in him, but I thought he really sold the underlying entitled rage in that scene. Used to be really skeptical about this casting, but he's won me over.

Lex also looked plausibly superheroish in the prison sequence, whioch was a nice tough.

The problem is that no matter what the showrunners do (or rather, what they're not doing), the series is on a downslide. One little spike in ratings (if that happens for the season finale) is unlikely to convince the people who abandoned this show over the past couple of season to believe its suddenly great and scamper back.

The showrunners have stuffed the series with too many characters--many of them not even remotely interesting, but stuffed they were, and as a result, Alex has been fading into the wallpaper for some time. She has no reason to be at this point.

I know it will never happen on this show, but if the showrunners had stones at all, they would've had SG confront Lena seasons ago about her eugenics beliefs/experiments. Not having SG discover this is just another way of avoiding how evil Lena was to even think of what she was doing, all to get back to a "friendship" that seemed unbelievable all along. There was more friend chemistry between Lena and Rojas in the few minutes of screen time they've received than several seasons of SG/Lena

I've kind of gone over the ratings issues with Supergirl a few times already, but I'll make a few new points here:

Even if the live viewership numbers were of utmost importance to the CW (they aren't, but even if they were), you have to remember that this is the CW. They aren't exactly flush with shows that can generate huge viewership numbers. Supergirl's numbers may be on the decline, but the CW doesn't really have a show they can just plug into its slot and replace those numbers with. Any show they plug in likely gets even lower viewership numbers.

You look at how poorly Legends of Tomorrow did last season, and it still got renewed because the network simply doesn't have a show that they can replace it with, and also because they really really don't want to risk pissing off Berlanti and having that relationship sour.

All that said, Supergirl is still one of the network's top shows when you combine the live viewership and streaming numbers.

I agree with you. But eventually, the bough will break and the network will move on. It's not going to be this year though.
