Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I'm assuming that number does not include Section 31, Lower Decks or the (I think) untitled animated Nick Jr. show?

We know they were developing a Ceti Alpha V miniseries written by Harve Bennett, although based on his Midnight's Edge (yikes) interview, he's got no involvement and no idea if it's gonna happen. They were also developing a Starfleet Academy series (seriously, give me that ST'09 energy please this is the show I need) which had showrunners and writers attached about a 18 months ago ago.

I've mentioned this about DSC, but I'll say it again: in the prime universe there's a 70 year span of time (2293-2363) of which we know virtually nothing about what went on in the Star Trek universe. It's completely fertile ground for storytelling. And yet CBS constantly wants to do prequels to TOS (if the Section 31 show is also supposed to take place during the Pike era). Why not set a show in, say, the year 2320? If they can do prequels to TOS, they sure as hell can do prequels to TNG.

Exactly this. I'd love a series about the early years of the Cardassian Wars.

Frakes confirmed that he's going to be directing for two upcoming Star Trek series:
It has been a blessing to have my career to be rekindled by the new Star Treks. It didn’t hurt that I learned how to do another craft. The directing has been fantastic for me. When Discovery worked out and then Picard worked out and now there will be a new one, and another one.
Assuming that both are live-action and that one is Section 31, the other has to be something that is far enough along in development that directors are being chosen. The most likely candidates would be Pike and Starfleet Academy. We haven't heard anything about the Academy series in such a long time that I find that option unlikely. So the only real possibility is the Pike series, which has a cast, sets, and a ship design, which means it's much more production-ready than anything else.

Works for me. Frakes is one of the good ones, IMO. If they're going to bring in other veterans, they should also get Roxanne Dawson and Robert Duncan McNeill to direct some eps. They always seemed to do a relatively good job behind the camera over the years.

I believe Starfleet Academy is delayed until 2022. There's no way it can start production in early 2021, as the same team will still be filming the delayed Gossip Girl sequel in New York, so they're going to sit it out until the 2022 round of filming.

Do we even have any solid information that it's still happening?

There was at least:

A series set at Starfleet Academy from creators Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz. The duo currently serve as co-showrunners on the Hulu-Marvel series “Runaways” and are best known for creating shows like “Gossip Girl” and the CW’s reboot of Dynasty.

Oh, I know. Thanks for the link. The only known shows in development are:

1. DSC season 3.
2. PIC seasons 2 & 3.
3. Section 31.
4. Lower Decks.
5. The Nickelodeon show.

And with Covid-19, who even knows about any of that.
