A Short Trek featuring an Enterprise character would be great. You'd never get the whole cast back, or the sets, but a 15 minute character study showing what's happening in the early years of the federation would be fun. I could imagine someone with communication skills like Hoshi Sato would be very important in that early era.

Indeed. He needs to start writing checks.

    That's signature worthy.

There could be a Short Trek based around T’Pau, since she’s still around by the time of TOS.

If it was brought back, where should the series go? Does it have to go to the tired, dark war drama which a lot of TrekBBS members love so much? Could there be a shining light for some inspirational, strong character storytelling?

^^ Those two alternatives are not mutually exclusive.

I would expect a Romulan War storyline to be dark, but I would hope it would not be tired. I really enjoyed Season 3's Xindi war arc because of the strong character storytelling, watching the characters tested in crisis. Many dark, and compelling, moments.

Like the Time War on Doctor Who, I would envisage the Romulan War largely happening offscreen to begin with. You would restart an Enterprise continuation with the Federation founding but show its characters still suffering from traumatic life changing events. As the storyline builds, flashbacks of 2156-60 increase and clues to a conspiracy piece together that establish why Starfleet and the Romulans' knowledge of each other was kept out of the history books.

And early Federation series would be interesting, how did it get so humancentric?

Maybe Scot Bakula could guess star as one of Archer’s descendants.

Shoot - a Short Trek involving/centered around Mayweather would most likely give him more spoken dialogue than he had in the entire series run. :)

    Cheers,

They could technically start during the Romulan War, as its believable that such a stressful situation ages them several years in a short timeframe. But post-Federation founding, they should have all parted ways. They may have the occasional posting together or work on an important mission together due to certain experiences (Suliban Cabal, Xindi, Daniels), but they should be doing different things and in different stages in their lives, much like how Starfleet moves on to Daedalus-class ships and retires NX-class ships. Archer himself becomes an ambassador to Andoria by the end of the 2160s. And they are still using DY-class ships by the 2190s. No reason a member of the crew could not take up a posting on one of those ships.

Cause all the others didn't trust each other, but trusted the humans.

I don't expect that to happen, but it would be nice for T'Pol to make an appearance or two on the Pike series.

The same could be said for Phlox, since they never established the lifespan of Denobulans in ENT.

I'd love to see an animated Romulan War mini-series.

Could there be something better than that? Is there something beyond bloodshed and ships blowing up which could be entertaining and honor what the crew of NX-01 represented?

Well how about this for an Idea on a Romulan War move/mini series, coloring book..
You have it being the POV of a new person in starfleet, and have it be from his/her point of view..
Start as a bridge officer, maybe communications, then have the ship be blown out from under them, but he/she survives, gets patched up, and sent to the next ship..
Take a page from Starship Trooper.. Show a guy/girl signing up at the start of the War, show them go threw an abriviated academy/camp maybe he/she is an enlisted.. and show the war as she/he goes from some non com, then goes to an abriviated officers school, and each ship, each battle moves up the ranks, till she/he is battlefield promoted to a captain and he/she the ship sacrifices themselves in the last battle to win the war.. :)

Considering how they completely botched their original premise about the formation of the Federation, I'm not sure I'd want to see the Romulan War. Actually, I don't want to see it as a general rule. I'm past that. I want to see Trek going forward, not backwards.

Not even if they used the DSC precedent to visually reboot that era working backwards from TOS? We’d finally get to see the steampunk conflict hinted at in “Balance of Terror”, and best of all, nobody would be able to say anything. It would just exist and fit (somehow, different “animation styles” and all that).

War is somehing that should be kept out of Star Trek, DS9 had enough of that.
