Whatever it is I wouldn't be shocked if it was bumped up. Networks are going to be looking for new content soon and even though it might be uncomfortable to consider but to start a show that follows the collapse of the Federation and society amidst what is going on right now with people at least thinking those thoughts about our own society it could feel kind of relevant to what is going on right now.

With post production work going at a slower pace than usual, I suspect the season will in fact premiere at a later date than whatever was originally planned. My personal theory, had there been no coronavirus, there would likely have been a full trailer now advertising a June premiere date. Now I don't expect a premiere any earlier than July, and even that might be optimistic.
Postproduction started in August, after the first episode was filmed. Most episodes are ready. It would make no sense to delay it until July.
They started post production, but aren't ready yet. It's not as if the entire season was done with post early March and it's just sitting there. Many working in Post are probably working from home, but their systems there aren't nearly as capable as to what is available at the studios/offices. So editing, sound effects, SFX..... it's all going slower. If the original release was scheduled for June, they would still be working on Post right now regardless of Covid-19.
But that's all conjecture, since we don't know when the original release was scheduled. Or if they they're even delaying it. For all we know, they were aiming for august 2020.
My prediction:
The show will be more of the same in terms of style, themes, characters, storytelling, etc. The setting will change, but anyone expecting it to suddenly be something different......yeah......no. Not going to happen.
So at this point, if you don't like DSC, you are still not going to like it. Sorry for the bad news.

If they begin airing the season before the whole thing is finished, we're looking at a potential forced hiatus until the last few episodes are finished. If they know post-production of every episode is complete, then they can run it straight through without any worries.
That's what I am worried about. I mean they could so easy make me like the show better by simply making better use of the ensemble. Still if you look at a show like Agents of Shield they changed formats many times and that show seems to keep getting better and better so maybe this blank slate to canon and with no Federation around it will be something that really makes the writers improve. I mean one of my favorite shows on tv right now is Zooey'sPlaylist and it is being done by the same people who did a crappy job in the first season of this show and got fired for being abusive to staff. It's amazing to see how a new environment to tell stories can make writers work improve.

Season 2 started when post production wasn't finished and there was no break. They finished shooting in December 2018 and started the episodes in January 2019...
Yes, but those were under normal working conditions. It's not the same scale, but I work in production too. I'm a videographer and editor. Whatever you have at home isn't going to be as good as whatever's at work. And what they're editing is far more complex than anything I do at the public access (or on-the-side very indie no-budget film) level. So there's an entire team and I'm going to assume they all have to coordinate. And the director has to approve of all the edits. And Michelle Paradise has to approve. And Alex Kurtzman has to rubber stamp it. And they can't meet in person, so it's all about uploading and downloading files, internet connections, teleconferencing, Skype, and it slows things down. Maybe not by much but at has to be at least by some.
Since we have no idea when things will go back to normal, it's smarter for them to take a "better safe than sorry" approach. Yes, it sucks, but there we are.

Besides, look at The Walking Dead. They won't be able to air their season finale when it was supposed to because coronavirus halted postproduction, meaning the episode is going to have to be held until a later point this year yet to be determined. That's just one episode. And although The Walking Dead is a very VFX intensive show, it's nowhere near the scale that Star Trek would be. On Star Trek there are entire scenes just consisting of CG, even entire scenes with actors interacting in CG environments. I can very much believe they could have to wait until July to air it all. Indeed, July might be an optimistic appraisal of the matter.
Not necessarily. If they open the stories up to the rest of the crew and lose Clem Fandango I'll be happy
I truly don't know why people expect to like this time 'round.
Well the initial appeal is basically to sort of see the trek universe and what it will look like as if it was put in a blender and everything has now come out looking and feeling different. Aliens no longer have to have the same values or traditions. You can have emotional Vulcans or Klingon ballerina's. Who knows what has changed after so long of time. Also the mystery of what happened to the Federation can play as mystery while also serving as a goal in terms of something that needs to be brought back though in that case they are going into Andromeda territory.

My biggest concern going into the second season was that they'd bend over backwards to the "STD Sucks!" crowd. By "Point of Light", I was relieved beyond belief that wasn't the case, and my worries disappeared.
Slight correction to that: they did bend a little by forbidding the discussion of Discovery under the penalty of Treason. I don't care what they say, they let people who hate the show arm-wrestle them down into throwing that line in. Having the Spore Drive be a failure or technology that should be classified was good enough. "Don't mention Discovery or Michael Burnham!" was just something extra added in there to give the people who hate the show something to salivate over, so they could claim "victory".
I'm interested in what they do with the new setting because I want to see how it'll be different, but I also want to see Star Trek actually do something with a Roddenberry idea that's existed since the '70s but was never put into use in Star Trek. And they can do something awesome -- or at least what I think is awesome -- now, without someone ruining it by saying "But how does it fit into TOS and TNG and... " And I held my tongue a lot during the first two seasons, believe it or not. For everything I said, there was a lot where I didn't. But now we're in the third season, and out of prequel territory, so we don't have to hear any of that anymore...

One thing the disease is doing is allowing us fans to hone are skills of complaining to a fine art. Soon when the show starts even the biggest fans of the show won't know what hit them. It will be like a thunderstrike from God. So powerful even they will finally admit defeat and join the opposition.

So Disco is doing the Trek thing, the thing that defines the franchise, was the title of the second pilot (and a TNG episode), and yet people complain. Situation normal, I suppose.

New Trek is trying new stuff. If something works, it works. If it doesn't, so what? It's no big deal.
