Star Trek Picard is not Star Trek

I stumbled across Robert Meyer Burnett's YouTube channel while looking up stuff about Picard. He's exactly like that. Never going back there, that's for sure.
It saddened me. He seemed to be excited about ep 1 and had sound arguments against DISCO

Then he just fell into the same tired arguments

Mecha flat out said she doesn't like it cause DISCO fans threatened some people. (?)

Yep. And just because ..

time for some good ole TNG dust buster violence

I love how Remmick is still sitting upright in the chair and you can see his spine and rib cage, like Mr. Creosote:

It does sometimes seem as though people tend to compare the latest STAR TREK not to the actual shows of the past but to some platonic, idealized version of STAR TREK that exists mostly in their own heads. "'The old shows never did that . . . not counting the seventeen times they did." :)

Or they "channel" Roddenberry from beyond the grave to put their words in his mouth:

"Roddenberry would have never allowed Star Trek to air on a paid streaming service!:"

"Roddenberry would have never allow gratuitous skin and titillation on STAR TREK!"

(I swear to Landru, I've actually seen both of those!)

Yes, there were two things Roddenberry hated with a passion. Money and titillation.

Let's not forget about DS9's godawful mirror universe episodes :barf:. I love DS9 and I've rewatched it many times but I always skip the MU episodes. I'm not a huge fan of it overall, but I think Disco is the only Trek so far that has watchable MU episodes.
I think the Ent take on the Mirror universe are as good as DSC’s. DS9: surprisingly, was the only one of the spins to have screwed the pooch with respect to the MU.

they are the only ds9 episodes ill be sure to skip on a rewatch

The only redeeming aspect of the DS9 mirror universe episodes was Worf and Garak's interaction. Beyond that they are well and truly awful.

Give me DSC, ENT, and the comics twice over and four times on Sunday than those episodes.

I think he was out of options and so he threatened to press the big red button expecting Starfleet to fold.

They didn't.

It also served to confirm his worst fears about what Starfleet and the Federation had become, I don't think he could fool himself anymore.

Without Starfleet and the Federation the rescue plan was dead in the water, its not just about the need for ships, its about finding planets who are willing to take 900 million refugees, having the spare resources to feed, clothe and house them.

Just imagine the extra bog rolls and porta loo's that would be required.

It was a tall order before the attack on Mars, it may be that many were just looking for an excuse to say no.
Given that 14 worlds threatened to leave over this issue, it's definitely implied that it's the latter. The Federation lives in a post-scarsity society. Not even at the peak of the Dominion War when Betazed was occupied were there people starving and struggling for necessities.

Naw, old prejudices just don't die.

(And you'll notice in the last episode, Raffi's friend mentions their grudge goes back 250 years. It's been nearly that long since America became a country and nearly 160 years since the end of the Civil War, and we're no closer to ending prejudice against blacks now than we were then.)

Agreed. Intendant Kira was the worst MU character ever. So cartoonish evil and unbelievable as a MU leader. I like Empress Sato and Emperor Georgiou much better ;);)

They wrecked MU Kira later, but in the first couple DS9 MU episodes she was fantastic. The MU Georgiou was and continues to be DSC's worst character (not a small accomplishment, considering she shares a screen with Burnham and Tilly). She's MU Kira's worst characteristics turned up to 11 and, for reasons I'll never comprehend, is apparently being given a redemption arc. Space Hitler isn't so bad! So she ate a little Saru scampi. Big deal.

Blah.

Seems like a good spot to reiterate my theory of the Zhat Vash being from the MU. Narek and sis arn't Romulan-levels of perv. Theyre MU-levels of perv.
