Brian Brophy didn’t return?

The World's Most Interesting Man was also not in TOS, just like Brophy wasn't in PIC.

Yeah, of those two scenarios...I’m going with the former.
Okay, they should have offered the opportunity to the actor to read for the part, and then we’d maybe find out which scenario it would have been closer to.

I think it was a better use of their time to just recast the role knowing that the actor would have about five minutes of screen time before he dies and is never seen again.

So apparently Robert Meyer Burnett was also expecting Brian Brophy to return for the role:

Brophy has a full-time academic job, and has simply not been involved in the TV industry for nine years. Nine years... That's almost a decade! The last thing he ever appeared in was a two-minute short film in 2014. Since there's next to no information available about it, it might have just been a student project.

I would guess that he's probably not even a SAG-AFTRA member anymore (there's no reason to be paying union dues for something that you haven't been involved in for years), and I understand there's extra rigmarole and jumping through hoops involved if you want to use a non-union actor in a prominent role in a union-contracted production. But I'm sure someone else around here has a better idea of how that all works.

@Crewman6 had informed me that even if you are a former member you can still be asked. So, they might have better knowledge on the subject of union dues and being asked to participate.

It's very likely that he's not current with his SAG membership, true. But he would still be "SAG eligible", so he wouldn't be hired as a non-union actor.

I think it would be great if he showed up out of the blue for a surprise appearance later this season... as a completely different character.

Kor

Haha, that would be funny. Discovery sort of did something like that. When Airiam was killed off the actress who originally played her in season 1 came back as a different character (at the same position no less)

Something I was happy to see personally because I've always been a sucker for a blonde with pretty eyes :adore:
