Spoilers The Mandalorian | Disney+ | Streaming Nov. 12

In this case, since they're switching back-and-forth constantly, the CG Baby Yoda limits itself to the puppet's capabilities a lot more closely (and the puppet is probably capable of much more subtle and varied movements than the Yoda puppets ever were). Even so, Hertzog's "cowards" remarks notwithstanding, I wouldn't be surprised if there were many shots of the puppet doing puppet-things where it was replaced with the CG version to smooth out motion, hide seams or shadows, or introduce more subtleties. They did it all the time with BB-8, for instance, even in shots using a "real" one.
Yeah, I get the impression that for at least some shots they're taking a similar approach as Dark Crystal did, by digitally enhancing certain shots of the puppet. Mostly I suspect it's just eye blinks and other lifelike touches that are too intricate to pull off convincingly with animatronics, but also probably erasing any cables, rods or puppeteers that would be impossible ot hide on set.

Eh... they're really good as an ensemble cast along with Mando. I could be wrong, but I don't know if any one of them could hold a show on their own. They should just enjoy the success that Mando is and keep it going down that path. Stop trying to milk shit to the marrow all the time.

Trek has some interesting projects coming, but I fear that over-saturation will occur (again), killing the franchise for another 10+ years. With the less-than-stellar showings of Solo and the latest trilogy, they really should re-think that course of action and focus on what works.

I think in their minds that's what they're doing by shifting their focus to TV instead of movies for the moment.

Ewan McGregor was just recently on Fallon not too long ago and specifically mentioned that Obi Wan was once planned as a film and then changed to a TV show. If this has changed (again), then it's been within the past couple of days.

This is the only place I've seen anything about Obi-Wan becoming a movie again.

RBM and Campea were talking about it last week, and they heard from people. Again, idk.. but there is a certain logic to it, especially if only a few scripts were good enough to keep, especially if each episode would have Chow directing anyway, the speculation that they would retool it as a movie again would not surprise me

either way.. we are talking 4 episodes? One director. 4 episode season is ridiculous. it's a miniseries.. not a series. it's not surprising that RMB has good reason to believe that it will be retooled to be a movie (and he is the guy that first got the scoop on the original version of episode 9)

Movie? Series? two are interchangeable when it's four to six episodes. Chop your movie up and you have episodes.

I love the mandalorian, but it is simply a proof of concept for doing half hour SW.. and a proof of concept for stagecraft. Beyond that it means less than people think it does

Sherlock only had 3 or 4 episodes a season, but it was still a multi-season series, not a miniseries.
At this point the whole TV/streaming landscape is shifting, so you can't always judge things by the old rules.

So, my worst fears are being realized... Mandalorian's success is now influencing other shows - Picard's episodes are only 42 minutes or so, while Discovery was almost an hour...

42 minutes is what TNG was. I mean really. In the case of Mandalorian, the episodes only needed to be 35 minutes, which is what they were. Trim the fat, tell the story, make it have a bit of punch

Besides, production had finished for Picard long before Mando even aired

I agree. We are all super busy these days. Frankly, I'd rather a story be the length it needs to be, not some artificially imposed time period. I've had no issues with the length of Mando or Picard episodes.

Same. I watch very few shows nowadays for a wide variety of reasons. If the story is good it can be ten minutes, 15 or an hour and I will watch it. But, my time is limited so if there is a lot of fluff to make it an hour long episode then I'll pass.

Economy of storytelling is a good thing.

You know that Picard had been written and filmed long before The Mandalorian came out, right?

Um Discovery ran the gambit (in BOTH Seasons) in that:

- It had a couple eps. that were above 42 minutes (one 60+ minutes)
- It also had a couple REALLY short eps. (36 minutes.)

I think now that ST: D has got a syndication deal for the U.K. - the Execs are hedging their bets in that: "Okay, do it for the Streaming service, but keep it so we can still syndicate these eps. to cable/satellite/broadcast channels because those still aren't going away, and hey, MONEY!"
