I mean, I get it.. Everyone is a superfan and they want to signal to their fellow forum dwellers that they are "on the team" or whatever, but.. I have a serious question for 45 people who voted "10/10".
yep - doesn't make it a 5/10, though

I never go straight for the 10/10 it doesnt leave me any wriggle room if an even better episode comes along, I rated the first two episodes as 8/10 each, based on the idea that they really should be seen as one big pilot and the 2nd episode was pretty much what I expected from the piggy in the middle.

gave the first a 10/10 (purely hormonal) - #2 got your 8/10

I can certainly understand why you went straight for the 10, quite a few on this forum have been eagerly awaiting Picards release, same with Discovery when it was released.

If the 3rd episode carries on in a similar vein as the first two I expect it will get an 8/10 as well, which will then make it easy for me to give the three episodes together an 8/10 as a whole for the pilot, which is a solid number and certainly higher than I would have given the first episodes of Enterprise, TNG or VOY.

If the 3rd episode throws us a big face slap it could hit 9/10, for instance if we see the Enterprise E on screen or any evidence pointing to the existence of the Odyssey class in 2385 such as Picard stating the ships name was the USS Verity, we may get no mention of it at all and that is fine as the ship he was on at the time is not really that pertinent to the story.

If this episode that is nearly devoid of any meaningful events and is essentially a table-setting episode to fuel the rest of the season..

What do you rate "Best of Both Worlds"???
What do you rate "Tapestry"???
How about "All Good Things"?
..and "Chain of Command?
..not to mention "I, Borg"?

I'm honestly not sure if people are just being intellectually dishonest, or if they just don't understand the concept of a 1 - 10 rating system. If you rate something as boring, bland and uneventful as Season 1 Episode 2 of Star Trek: Picard a "10/10".. You are just making a mockery of the rating process.

Now, according to these 45 voters, "The Best of Both Worlds" (One of the greatest episodes of television science fiction PERIOD) is now on-par or WORSE than a forgettable, exposition-laced filler episode of Star Trek: Picard.

It just defies logic.

I wouldn't personally give any of those any higher than an 8/10 myself, except maybe Tapestry. And there's a whole lot in SF TV I would rate higher than TBoBW. I gave ep 2 a 7, ep 1 and 8. But yeah, I've seen places where people want to give things 11/10, 15/10 and such so for some people 10/10 doesn't seem to really have a lot of meaning except as a starting point if they are fans.

It it is subjective.

At least it got better in the middle for a while, IMO. Can't say the same thing for Voyager or Enterprise.

I think, across the entirety of the franchise (pre-Kurtzman), it is all very hit or miss. All the shows have been brilliant from time to time, all the shows have been absolutely garbage from time to time.

actually tng is the worst trek in my book way to holy for me

... let the stoning commence
I was born at the end of 1980 so only a kid when it came out, TNG was slow to get going and the first season was hard work but it did serve an important purpose setting the scene and introducing all the characters which helped make the following episodes and seasons better.

Plus it was the days of 20-24 episode Star Trek seasons so you do expect some filler.

For me Enterprise S1 was the worst of them with Voyager S1 not far behind as the Caretaker and Kazon stuff was like counting sheep, I fell asleep at times watching Enterprise S1 and the whole Xindi storyline was a borefest, it did get better though and the Temporal Cold War and Romulan stuff was solid but came too late to save the show, same for Voyager with the addition of the Hirogen, Species 8472 and the Borg.

Some shows find their feet quicker than others, unfortunately those that don't tend to get cancelled just as they come good, which is one of the reasons I don't watch the Syfy channel any more as they always seem to cancel shows at just the wrong moment.

The last one was Dominion when they cancelled that I swore off the channel for good.

darmok is certainly in my top three of all of trek - 'the worst' is supossed to mean as a show

You missed some good stuff then. 12 Monkeys had a good full run, as did Killjoys both ending at their logical conclusions and were both above average scifi as a whole, 12 Monkeys at times effing brilliant. The Magicians is still running fine and I expect it to do the same, and even though the Expanse was cancelled, it was picked up by Amazon so should finish when it should. IMO, Syfy isn't really any different than most networks.

well, being a first consumer of raumschiff enterprise (dubbed for kids) and forced to watch raumpatroullie whenever it was on (loved it) by one of my grannies ... i have to say you're roughly 25 years younger than me

I consider neither Voyager or Enterprise to have provided me any episodes I wish to remember, so yes, that's terrible in my books. At least TNG has a handful worth remembering, although nothing compared to TOS or DS9 or DISCO so far. Can't be sure about PIC yet, too soon.

distant origin? i admit it could have been done better

Oh I watched the 12 Monkeys all the way through just not on Syfy channel so I didnt really pay attention to where it was from, I streamed it instead.

Killjoys came very close to tempting me but I decided to stay away to ensure its survival, as soon as I start to watch it would have been cancelled, you are welcome.
