Watching Picard go around and have things explained to him is pretty boring.
That said, towards the end of this episode I was actually interested in what was going on. So that's good.
I think Stewart is giving a good performance, and Chabon is a talented writer. Hopefully they were able to put an interesting story together here. I still very much dislike the premise of the show.
The acting by the female admiral in this was not good IMO.

To be fair, Loki is what...2000 or so years old in the MCU? He can be assumed to know (and use) a lot of older linguistic terms.
No problem. I enjoy discussing the mechanics of writing and editing.
Obviously a term well past it's best-before date, as in this age it's acceptable to start sneering at a show before even the first episode has aired if current Trek's are any sort of bellwether. IMO, 'jump the shark' has become another term that's about as moored to usefulness as Grimdark and Mary Sue.
I'll concede that Kirk's reference to little boys dipping little girls' pigtails in inkwells was pushing it a bit.
Not that out of touch for the audiences at the time, though. And when I was in elementary school back in the 1970s we were still sat at desks from the era of inkwells.
i had those unil 1983 when i left school
My elementary school in semi-rural SW Oregon was in a building that was originally from 1895 and was continually expanded. The desks for the 2nd and 3rd graders were desks that still had ink wells and they were only finally replaced in the mid 90's with desks from the mid 80's.
I've no problem with Picard saying "don't hang up." Although I might've written something more along the lines of "Raffi, don't tap out."
You know, considering you tap the badge. Although, "tap out" already has its own meaning for us today. But then language changes and new colloquialisms form while others change or die out.
I too prefer the new explanation. Makes it more original and personal to the characters.

Episode 1 was fairly good, but Episode 2..?
Episode 2, outside of the intro that showed the mars incident, was horrid. Snoozefest, barely anything happens, and just a lot of exposition. I gave it a 5/10, and I think I was being generous.
That being said, the series looks good overall.. I just think this may have been the stinker of season 1.

Its the middle one of the first three episodes which are grouped together as the pilot so its no surprise that it has a lot of exposition and setup in it.

I mean, I get it.. Everyone is a superfan and they want to signal to their fellow forum dwellers that they are "on the team" or whatever, but.. I have a serious question for 45 people who voted "10/10".
If this episode that is nearly devoid of any meaningful events and is essentially a table-setting episode to fuel the rest of the season..
What do you rate "Best of Both Worlds"???
What do you rate "Tapestry"???
How about "All Good Things"?
..and "Chain of Command?
..not to mention "I, Borg"?
I'm honestly not sure if people are just being intellectually dishonest, or if they just don't understand the concept of a 1 - 10 rating system. If you rate something as boring, bland and uneventful as Season 1 Episode 2 of Star Trek: Picard a "10/10".. You are just making a mockery of the rating process.
Now, according to these 45 voters, "The Best of Both Worlds" (One of the greatest episodes of television science fiction PERIOD) is now on-par or WORSE than a forgettable, exposition-laced filler episode of Star Trek: Picard.
It just defies logic.

I think you're taking it a bit too seriously, I have on occasion as well, except for I question the logic of people who voted '1' or '10'. I think sometimes people just get caught up in the excitement of new material and aren't really thinking about it in context with the rest of the franchise.

I never go straight for the 10/10 it doesnt leave me any wriggle room if an even better episode comes along, I rated the first two episodes as 8/10 each, based on the idea that they really should be seen as one big pilot and the 2nd episode was pretty much what I expected from the piggy in the middle.
