Kurtzman was asked a question and he answered it. Hell ANY character from the 54 year history of the STAR TREK franchise could appear on STP IF it was a part of whatever story they are telling. there are so many spacial anomalies in Star Trek, you could use them as a mcguffin to do ANYTHING.

All sorts of ships--from Starfleet vessels to civilian transports--were seen coming and going at DS9 for various reasons. You never know who might drop by the station while passing through the sector.
I wouldn't be surprised if Lower Decks visits Deep Space Station K-7 too.

They could use an anomaly to justify anything but most of the time you end up with a weak episode doing that. You get better drama by building on characters that you have and having conflicts resolved in a plausible and satisfying way. Not 'and then they woke up' like Alice in Wonderland, or 'and then a Q in a benevolent mood came by and rescued them' or 'and then they reversed polarity and it worked!' And not by bringing in characters from some other series just long enough to say hello and goodbye, and not participate in the drama in any meaningful way.

Not sure if it counts as an appearance, but this

advertisement for Kasidy Yates Interstellar Freights in downtown Boston as seen in the Star Trek: Picard premiere should be an exciting find to Niners.

(London Kings reference, too) I'm sure it's just an Easter Egg, but it moves closer the possibility of seeing more Picard-era DS9 content... possibly within this series.

Why not? I get that you want to preserve DS9's legacy, but even if it sucks (and DS9 has the finest group of actors as a whole of any Trek, so I don't think that it would), just ignore it.

I wouldn’t believe everything he says. He said he would make Discovery fit by the end of season 2.

I would love to see any character from DS9 come back but only if it was necessary to the storyline in Picard

O'Brien is a TNG character originally, right? :)

He knows Sisko and Chief O'Brien and Worf of course. He and his crew might need supplies so you can use Quark. Picard is sick so at some point he might need to see a doctor so you might could use Bashir. Kira could be a ambassador from Bajor. One of the worlds that didn't want to help the Romulans. Ezri can be part of the crew of any Starfleet ship we might see. Jake is famous writer. Maybe Picard has one of his books. Sadly Odo can't be used.

That would depend on the form je takes. A bucket of goo should be easy to pull off.

There’s plenty of ways to get DS9 characters in that make sense in the story. If they need special parts and can’t get help from Starfleet they can barter with Ferengi and have to deal with Quark. O’Brien, Ezri and Bashir could be in San Francisco for any kind of Starfleet related business. Jake could want to interview him for a book.

I guess currently there’s little reason to go to Bajor or Cardassia without bloating the story. If Picard needed a secret backdoor into Romulan space he’d be more likely to use his Klingon connections.

Yeah, they could cast Odo as anyone, but unless he was just that crucial to the story it wouldn’t be worth it.

Of course he was, but DS9 did so much more with him than TNG did I would count him as more of a DS9 character.

I would love to see some DS9 characters return! Most of all I'd love to see my favourite race the Cardassians make an appearance. Garak maybe... or even better.... Gul Dukat (my beautiful majestic Cardassian space prince lol yeah I'm in love damn that man is hot/sexy!). And yeah I know I know... I get that would be difficult considering Dukat and Sisko are sort of non-coporial beings now (I don't believe either of them are dead btw Dukat is still trapped in the firecaves and Sisko is in "heaven"). But man! I would love to see the return of those two - that age old story of good versus evil! Hmmm that would make a good movie actually. I know some of you don't think it possible for those character to ever return in a believable way but I dunno because I've read some excellent fanfictions that managed to pull it off and do just that (and in a really convincing and believable way too!). Although to be honest, I don't really see any of that DS9 stuff fitting into this new series though sadly... especially if it's mostly going to centre around Picard and other TNG cast members, the Romulans and the Borg etc. I do hope my favourite race, the Cardassians are somehow included though - even if it's just a small mention just to see how my beloved Cardassia Prime and the Cardassians are getting on 30 years on in the current future climate. Have they rebuilt after the Dominion War for instance? Did they learn a valuable lesson from what happened during the war or change their militaristic government setup to something better or are they still the same? So much I want to know! Anywho haven't seen the new Picard yet but going to watch it later today! I like how at least one DS9 character re-appeared in the Orville so yeah I suppose they could do the same for this new series especially since it's a Star Trek series. Heehee we'll see (but I still want Gul Dukat back!) :-D

To me it would seem disrespectful, especially right now to recast Odo. Especially since the appeal of the character has tons to do with the late actor. Same with Nog though I would love a reference to a Captain Nog. Out of the characters to be honest Quark and O'Brien make the most sense. One of the great things about them as well is they would adjust to this more contemporary tone of the show. Colm Meaney is also one of trek's greatest actors and a legit movie star. That alone you think would appeal to a show that is going for high class entertainment.

I've always wanted to see a scene involving Garak and Picard.

Picard would hate everything about Garak, and Garak would mark Picard down as predictable and potentially useful.

I wonder if the Picard writers could use Ira Steven Behr & Ronald D. Moore's DS9 reunion pitch from the documentary? The year in "Season 8" was 2395, just four years before Picard.

Do you think it was disrespectful to Nimoy?

I think Bashir is just as easy to justify but easier to fit in than O'Brien. Suppose Section 31 wanted to keep tabs on him, and he could say he just happened to be an expert on Picard's medical condition.

I love the idea of having some DS9 characters in PIC, especially, since...

... Seven of Nine as a VOY-character is confirmed
... they take up with the idea of a 'darker' or 'not-so-utopian' federation, that was mostly established in DS9
    [/QUOTE]

But I also say: Beside the case, they let Picard meet O'Brien (or Worf), it shouldn't be such a... well I don't know, how to describe it, but it shouldn't be such a 'big deal'. I don't want to see or hear something like "Oh, wow, Dr. Bashier, you're here... how long has it been?". They should just use a DS9 character in a way, they would choose another character. So, instead of a new or nameless captain on a ship, they could use Ezri. Or, instead of a nameless crowd in the background, they could put Morn on a chair and that's it.
