Data knowing he gets emotions eventually (from Picard's stories) could have him delay the installation longer than he originally intended.

Worf and Troi quickly call off their relationship after finding out what happened in AGT. In the AGT future, Worf and Troi's relationship continues unhindered. Data then could have installed his chip right then and there to better observe relationships with his own emotional reaction or something (Data actually wants to feel happy for them or something), and he could have controlled his emotions by the time Soran came along, meaning the Ent-D is never destroyed. There are still quite a few months between AGT and Generations.

Certainly long enough for the Enterprise to spend a considerable amount of time in refit to get the new bridge stations, new Stellar Cartography and the hallway that bisects Engineering

The story seems to be moving a bit slower. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to recognize that woman or not. The episode seemed to be more about establishing the extent of the Romulan conspiracy. It makes me wonder if there’s some underground collaboration with Section 31 that knows all the details of Disco season 2.

A few nitpicks that the droids level of comprehension of jokes seems to be far below what we’ve seen hologram AI understand in TNG and Voyager. I guess you can argue that designing it to think autonomously and understand jokes is harder than a program designed just for canned responses.

Interesting that Loris comes from the Tal Shiar.

So I guess we'll see if ships in Picard hit Warp 13 then, if it was based in reality and was not a Q bullshit fantasy.

That’s a poor litmus test for that, and a rather pedantic detail to focus on.

In 1994 there was no question it was real, and retconning it a fantasy because later on writers went in a different direction strikes me as a personal measure of resolving dissonance that does not derive from the source material.

I rewatched the episode. Rizzo calls her a "useful ally" - which is a weird thing to say if someone is part of your clandestine organization.

So what is she? Regular Tal Shiar?
I get the distinct feeling that Lt. Rizzo is ambitious way beyond her years and wants nothing better than to eventually replace the Commodore.
She even threatens her brother.

New to alternate timelines?

Just because warp 13 existed in the one doesn’t mean we’ll see it in this one, now that it was altered by Picard coming back with memories of that future.

Also, I absolutely hope we will have warp 13.

Wouldn't that probably mean that Star Fleet once again, adjusted the WARP Scale it is using?

Perhaps due to newer and faster ships.

The new WARP 13 could be a shortened way to say WARP 9.9999999999999.

Unless it involves refactoring the warp scale because the last time Warp 10 was exceeded a helmsman turned into a salamander with his captain and got freaky

I was surprised we got a flashback to the Mars attack right at the beginning of the episode like that. Judging by the way the Synth's eyes flashed before the attack, it definitely looks like they were hacked.
Laris is awesome, and quickly becoming a favorite character.
The Romulan's conspiring with the Starfleet Commodore was a surprising reveal. From the way Narek and his sister talked about Oh, it sounds like she is not Romulan or at least not undercover the way Rizzo is.
The meeting with Admr. Clancy went even worse than I expected from the trailers, but it was interesting to get the other side of the decision to not help the Romulans. Her reasons for not helping them were not completely unreasonable. I know a lot of people are probably going to assume from the exchange that she's a bad guy, but I don't see it. She simply doesn't have the same attitudes about things as Picard does.

Am really impressed with this show. The deep dive on Romulan culture, how they hate AI. Loved seeing Mars for a change. And seems to me Narek's mention of the Artifact being disconnected from the Collective implies the Borg ARE still out there. Am being surprised by the direction in the plot often, and adore that.

Gave it a 10. Excellent. Immediately re-watching right now. Wish I could watch all of it right now.

She's the boss of a Romulan spy.

I'm not sure the Commodore knows she's a Romulan spy. My impression, based on just one viewing, is that the Vulcan Commodore is up to some shady stuff but doesn't know that "Rizzo" is actually a Romulan disguised as human. In other words, "Rizzo" is some sort of double or triple agent fooling the Commodore as well.

As for colloquialisms, including the f-word, let's be honest: Star Trek characters, as far back as TOS, basically speak modern English for the benefit of modern TV viewers. TOS was arguably more colloquial than TNG ("In a pig's eye!"), but it's a matter of degree and, honestly, I prefer dialogue that sounds more contemporary and naturalistic than going for some sort of stilted, elevated "future" language. And Lord knows any attempt to invent future slang can end up sounding ridiculous. ("We reach, you Herbert!")

In short, words like "fuck' or "shit" or "dude" are really no more anachronistic than most of the modern English we've always heard on STAR TREK.

See @DaveyNY ’s reply. When dealing with an exponential scale with a discontinuity, it becomes desirable to rescale. The difference between warp 9.9 and warp 9.9999 is (far!) bigger than between 9 and 8. By the way, that’s surely what it meant in AGT, too. The warp 10 barrier was already in the TNG Technical Manual, which came out in 1991.

Not as good as episode 1 but still compelling. It definitely felt like the second act of three and it left me wanting more. Once again I await next week eagerly.

Laris is a gem of a character. I hope we see more of her as the series goes on. I wasn't sure if Commodore Oh is supposed to be a real Vulcan or a Romulan posing as one. Good to see Peyton List as a sneaky Romulan spy. That admiral reminded me of every asshole admiral in the franchise.

Early days but I preferred Dahj to Soji. I'm ambivalent about her thus far. I would have liked to see more of Raffi. If anything this series is making me more interested in the current story than any nostalgia trip. It's cool to see the callbacks but I really want to see what happens next!

And I just realised I didn't even mention Picard himself. The series may be named after him and based around him but there's a lot more on offer than just Picard here. Great series so far. I really hope the quality continues.
