Who is he and shy should I care?

He is:

(a) The man who saved lots of original series episodes from destruction.
(b) The living example of the cliched Doctor Who fan. The Abzorbaloff in "Love & Monsters" is basically Ian.
(c) A very, very rich man who was able to pay original series actors to appear in fan films and animated recreations of missing episodes for his own entertainment.
(d) A massive wanker.

So Chris Chibnall has said that this IS the Doctor. This is not an alternate Universe or fake doctor.
I'm glad, I think to be a fake or alternate Universe Doctor would rob us from having our first black Doctor. One i'm even more fond of than 13.

Other way around, surely? Classic WHO had a proper TARDIS from the get-go and because this oversized, steroid-driven anthropomorphized street corner walker spitting sugar biscuits in the middle of it all along.
A.I. has a long way to go...

Cutie, I'm halfway through 70cl of vodka
Heh! lightweight!

What I hated is.. The news.. I didn't get to watch this episode right away, but Monday morning.. Boom! New doctor and jack! Not just in the story.. In the freaking headline! Ugh..
Freaking irresponsible...
The biggest offenders I noticed were BBC instagram and comic book resources.

I did get to watch the episode Sunday night, but due to the inconvenience of being in a different time zone, I ended up finding out just before the watching the episode about Jack's return. Managed to stay in the dark about a new Doctor though.

Pretty much the first thing I saw (by accident) when I opened the internet this morning were spoilers for the finale of 'Arrow.'

It's the click-bait world we live in where websites are desperate for attention and now put things in headlines that they once wouldn't have.

Has that broadcast yet?

BBC is known for hyping its own shows - including on its news reports. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't mentioned on the 6AM radio 4 bulletin Monday morning

Haven't read this thread at all.
I watched the episode last night finally, and have one question...

Total speculation here so no need for a spoiler.
Could Ruth be "The Doctor" before our current Doctor(s) 1 thru 13 got the job?
This could explain the current doctor not recognizing her.
It's not like the Doctor is immortal. Someone had the job before him\her.

If this has already been discussed please ignore.

It hasn't been entirely discussed in the manner you mean - most speculation is that this is a pre-Hartnell version who at some point forgets their previous lives. You mean a situation where the title "Doctor" is one that is passed on? Like Ultra Magnus in the IDW comics, with the latest one just being the truest to the identity?

Doubtful, as both 13 and the Judoon scan Ruth!Doc and detect that they are the same Time Lord, not just two Time Lords both using the name "Doctor". The finishing each other's sentences is also indicative that they are the same person.

The only thing you forgot is:

(e) And there is no reason why you should care what he thinks!

The Mirror said that Chibnall said that. Doesn't seem to have come from anywhere else. Why would he be talking to the Mirror rather than say the Radio Times? Take it with a huge grain of salt!

That's just nonsense - they directly quote him - yes the Mirror like lots of tabloids says a lot of stuff to sell copy but making up direct quotes - nope.

If they *had* made up direct quotes, we would have seen a rebuttal or a correction by now.

As for the Radio Times, they quoted the story...

^ Questioning the integrity of publications is not nonsense. No, I'm taking it with a grain of salt. The Radio Times was quoting the Mirror, which is a questionable practice!

So, you think Chibnall, who is usually very tight lipped, would actually go to the Mirror, and only the Mirror, to set the record straight?! That's nonsense!

Would we have gotten a correction? Maybe. But, maybe they're letting it stand to misdirect us? They didn't lie to us, just didn't correct a misleading story. Maybe.

Still holding out hope that Jo isn't Pre-Hartnell!

Yeah, same. Huffington Post had the Doctor reveal on a headline. That's probably why I was not as thrilled with this episode than many others seem to have. It was OK, but the first half just seemed boring as I was awaiting the reveal.

Now for this plot thread itself, I'm both intrigued and somewhat terrified. This is an interesting mystery for sure, but I am afraid that they end up messing the continue totally or just retcon too much of Doctor's history. I was never a huge fan of adding the the War Doctor either, even though the episode itself was excellent.

You understand this is proper tin-foil hat stuff?

They made up quotes from CC and he and the BBC let it stand because they like the lie?
