I have dan grades in aikido and judo (lapsed, mind you), have practised t'ai chi for years, boxed as an amateur and to represent my university at heavyweight, have done MMA for fun and took part in numerous judo competitions when I was a teenager. That's on top of the fact I spend half my waking life surrounded by violent offenders. Sadly I still couldn't fight my way out of a room full of disabled toddlers, sleeping ones at that. Complete and utter wimp as it happens, got my nose broke by a girl I turned down and cried, regularly get pasted by my teenage son and got my hand broke wrestling with my dog. Still, I run fast so that helps.
Yeah, it's a long way from saying that a girl liked me better than some other guy to calling myself "a stud". I mean it's basically the same as assuming that any Star Trek fan is a nerdy couch potato!!! But if there is one thing that the internet has taught us is hard to fight against, It's prejudice.
The post contains a collection of assertions that perhaps individually, would not seem unusual but, taken together, give an impression of exaggeration or boastfulness.
A boast is ALWAYS a lie. If it's the truth... then you call it... guess what? ... THE TRUTH... ding!ding!ding! we have a winner!!! But if telling the truth about myself hurts my "credibility rating" then it makes me wonder what kind of people I am talking to. "Credibility" is a two-way street.
That's precisely how prejudice works!! Like that scene where Sisko is in the past wearing a nice suit and one of the foul cops assumes that he's a janitor and therefore couldn't afford a suit like that because of "believability". Nice show of openmindedness guys!!
That's a long way from being true: Definition of boast. Words have meanings. That being said...I don't think that everyone believed your story, no.
Well, I was obviously not talking about an attribute. I said, "That's how prejudice works"... That means that the same kind of reasoning that leads to prejudice is what leads some people not to believe what I am saying. I didn't think it was so complex a concept that it needed further explanations. None of you people know me in real life and yet some of you decided that I was a liar and also to mock me based on nothing more than... "likelihood"... Imagine if justice worked the same way. You look like you could have committed the crime, therefore we will execute you... Just in case. I sure hope that none of you are making the laws of your respective countries or I'd be worried for the citizens of such countries.
Well, given the things that some people believe without a speck of proof though... I don't really think it's something that will keep me awake at night. Sorry for telling the truth without regard to "believability"... I suppose if someone on this board said that they just won the lottery you people would call them a liar on the grounds that such an event is less likely to happen than them being run over by a bus...
Yes, what you're experiencing is exactly like racism and injustice. You're a regular Nelson Mandela. Give it a rest, dude. You were bragging about what a badass you are and how all the ladies love you, so people poked fun at that a bit. You're not oppressed or the victim of discrimination. By the way, if people keep reacting to you like these ones allegedly did, maybe it's on you. Did this hypothetical person win the lottery because they beat the shit out of some guy who became envious of his alpha male sexual prowess (like so many others) and challenged him to lock horns in a mating duel, and then after getting his ass kicked he dropped his winning lottery ticket as he ran out the door without the police ever being notified or anyone being injured?
