This is the so called "Prime" Timeline. What is the original Star Trek is the "Alpha" Timeline.
The "Kelvin" Timeline was born out of the Prime timeline, not the Alpha Timeline.

I know that is the first thing that hit me. Why couldn't they have at least gave a nod back to the more functional slanted panel. How difficult for that poor transporter chief. Red Shirts always get the shite end of the stick.

See.. No.. I can't get that feeling I'm looking at a toy someone sat on and squished the nacelles down, and out, while making the neck squish in with a flatter saucer. I'm just not a fan of this design. gorgeous shots or not, tho they are pretty shots. I just don't like this iteration. I am intriguiged to see what it would look like with the slight refit for Kirk's time. I sure hope they don't do the TMP version. That would be skipping too far ahead.
worse is if they use the the Phase II concept.

Kirk's first 5 Years should be more like the original. I'm weary of this design and how flat and squished it looks.

Because like a lot of fans, those editing the site can make assumptions that fit the facts but aren't specifically mentionned in canon.

I also removed the line because there isn't a canon source.

I don’t think they cared. To a degree they probably figured a lot of Trekkies would be more forgiving because they were just happy to have Trek back on TV.

And I don’t think they’d be totally wrong if they did think that.

Well if New Trek-Kurtzman & Co., CBS and the Prime Timeline universe fans don't give a rats about canon, then the bridge module thing shouldn't be an issue. Right?

If they didn’t care about canon they would have made it a different universe, and wouldn’t have flung Discovery into the 32nd century to avoid it.

Also the bridge module thing was never canon.

Does the AU count? Definitely a complete bridge module being installed here. Plus, there's been enough mentions in novels and tech manuals, it's as good as canon to me.

The module being interchangeable with different designs is what I was referring to.
That has never been mentioned on screen as a thing.

Yes, the sets have changed, but there has never been a canon in-universe explanation for that, yet, and there really shouldn't be.

When did the Prime and Alpha timelines diverge?

Stardate 2233.04. Roughly January of 2233.

If by "Alpha" you mean the Kelvin Timeline and not the theory that DSC is in a separate timeline from the five other live-action series.

Different designs being different insides, or different ships? I'd think any module made for a Galaxy class would be interchangeable between all Galaxy's.

Well the way I look at it is like this..
And the let me first preface this with, I don't care what Kurtzman, CBS, or any fanboy of ST:D believes or states is canon with this series and direction from CBS. The only real way to rationalize what they've done is separate timelines. So, Alpha timeline happened, then when Spock went back in time, and the Romulans went back in time, the Kelvin universe was born. But because of the birth of the Kelvin timeline. But that Spock wasn't the Alpha timeline Spock, but was the Prime timeline Spock. So Alpha timeline is a closed system. It could be argued that at the end of TNG when time was unraveling that Picard and Q somehow gave birth to the Prime timeline when the universe was devolving, and subsequently put right. That originally without B's intervention, the Alpha timeline was to end, had he not got involved. Assuming the Q exist with access to all realities. So that is how I at least rationalize it. So yes, the Prime timeline is birthed from the Alpha, but it isn't the Alpha. Its new and better tech is a result of the reformatting of the universe, by Picard's actions to undo it's erasure.

I have always thought that certain parts of the ships should be modular and removable, such as the Bridge plus Battle Bridge, Impulse Engines, Weapon Pods (specifically the energy feed to them), Sensor Dish and Nacelles unless the design of the ship wont allow it (Magee for instance), same goes for the Warp Core if possible as well.

They are the areas of the ship that will be upgraded on a regular basis so it makes sense to build them in such a way that it saves time later, plus most of them are accessible from the outside or near enough as to make access no problem.

That's like saying a 3D monitor and a regular monitor and a 4K monitor aren't interchangeable with the same computer. But they are. Same for a Geforce 2080TI video card being interchangeable with a weaker Geforce 670. I see no reason why starships would be different, and we have canon modules in the Kelvin universe.

Almost all of the bridges/Deck 1s of the hero ships appear to be "pods" that can be removed, possibly ejected.

He could be talking about 2 different ship classes. On DSC, every one looks way too different to be compatible in this way.

But a refit Constitution and a Reliant could swap bridges modules. Galaxy & Nebula too. It's still gotta fit.
