If that was directed toward me, I never said that they didn't know what they were doing by shifting the time period. I sincerely hope DSC figures out just what it's supposed to be about. If going forward to the 32nd century does that, I'll be happy.

It's not directed towards anyone. Just a wry observation.

Better DSC is not in the 2250's.

If you look back at early press for each James Bond movie (at least as far back as the Daltons, but I suspect it's true all the way back), one of the elements they'd hype is "this time the female lead isn't just a Bond Girl, she's an equal and maybe better than Bond in a lot of ways". It's so strange to hear it said every time as though it's not the same exact thing they said last time, but it's just PR.

That's what I think about when DSC goes to a different time. "If we make a prequel, we won't have to worry about continuity or canon" "if we go to the future, the options are wide open and we don't have the straight jacket of continuity or canon". And... ok, sure, but that was never what worked or didn't work about the writing. Do your own thing or adhere to canon rigidly (or both, it can be done), whatever you want. But what makes it good isn't that and what makes it bad isn't that either.

I agree. Many artists do their best works when under constraints.

Well, I'm looking forward to it.

I wish they had gone to the late 24th, however. :)

It should have been set in the (post-Nemisis) future from the jump.

And then people would have complained about how it ruins Picard or some other continuity crap.

There is no winning for this show.

Winning is very easy. Have interesting characters, write good stories, do not massively mess up the continuity. Thus far they have managed one out of three.

I'd say two out of the three, but I know we won't see eye to eye on this one.

    And, no, it's not easy.

I dunno, TNG managed fine being set 75 years after Trek 6.

So set the show 75 years after Nemisis (or the Prime Universe events of the first Abrams movie)

Well, they set the Picard show 18 years after the events of the Abrams movie so we will see how fans tolerate that.

Well, yes in reality it is not easy. But you're just trying to pretend that there is some unfair bias towards Discovery, but (aside nutjobs crying about SJWs etc.) there isn't. People criticise the show for completely valid reasons. It is serialised show which for two seasons in a row has failed to have a sensible and satisfactory serialised plot. And if they can't fix that, going to the future, to the past or to the magical kingdom of Equestria is not gonna help.

No, not really. I'm observing the tendency for Discovery to be criticized no matter their choices. I don't think of it as a bias, so much as a tendency since it is (currently) the only Trek on at the moment. Yes, some criticisms are valid. What is frustrating is that there is no love behind the criticisms at times. That every single compliment seems to mask a hidden dagger. It isn't that there are not valid critiques of Discovery-it's that they feel like they come from such a hateful place.

I would say the same things regarding criticism towards the Picard show as well, and I don't even care for that show.

While I agree with you, the pic you posted really isn't a valid comparison. The DSC Enterprise's size and proportions are quite different than that fan-made model on the bottom.

...Aaaand just straighten up the double pylons and you are done.

Now, the next interesting step for the TPTB will be to insert a tabletop model of the above in PIC or one of the other "non-DSC" Trek incarnations. Any bets?

Just to troll some of the fans I'd straighten the pylons to look like the TOS pylons. It'd be worth it to watch some heads explode about reverting to a design that some consider outdated and inconsistent(for their own reasoning).

If that's their plan, I'd rather just not see it at all.

Honestly the model isn't so bad, but I don't like how thick the Nacelles are, and the squished saucer section and neck aren't my favorite. The black breaks in the nacelle should be closer to the collectors in the front. I'm okay with the pylons being slanted and more like ST:TMP era refit, however, remove the extra bit. It serves no purpose. Sigh....
I suppose this is what we get when the licensing deal requires 25% difference.
