Spoilers DC's Legends of Tomorrow - Season 4

Hunh. The Atom is splitting.

That was actually a good one! As a matter of fact, i would say it's the Bomb!

The most recent season of Legends was really kind of a nail in the coffin for me. I have not written about it here because I don't want to be somebody that jumps on a thread and pisses on a show the posters like.

I really enjoyed the first couple of seasons of Legends and thought that Season 3 had its moments--but the turnover of characters and the way the show ignored the "SUPERhero" angle last season just left me "blah". I would love to see Ray on The Flash as I think he would be a good fit. Nora should have been done after season 3.

It is still an Arrowverse series and I will continue to watch Legends, although it will most likely be something I play in the background while I am working just to keep up on the major plot points. (Am I the only one who watches shows like that?)
Well, i actually agree with you... i was OK with the time guardian thing for 1st season...but i REALLY think this show would be better as just an actual team show. First the time travel, now magic...it just feels like they are trying to do something "cool" and "trendy" and it doens't work for me.

Personally, i would prefer a an anthology show...a sort of "DC Presents" , where they can have any characters they want, and any length of time. JUst have fun, and not have to tie everyone together, or the TIme Bureau stuff

It occurs to me that if Ray Palmer leaves, that creates an opportunity to bring in Ryan Choi.

Whoa -- DC Berlanti Shows actually having an Asian in a starring role (or even recurring -- a level beyond Frequet Guest STar)

I would be shocked if that happened.
In regards to ROuth as SUperman.... well, considering how the DC FIlm Universe is faring.. maybe he will be the NEW movie Superman, if what they rumor about Henry Cavill is true

That has even less of a chance happening than Routh becoming the only Superman in the Arrowverse.

Making my way through S4 on Netflix... Why is there a random gag about a Superman actor with a ridiculous-looking mousta - ohhhhh, righhhhhht.... :rommie:

I love how fucking on point the humor in Legends is, but this one....this one went next level!!!

"Fired" doesn't seem like the right word, since it implies he was penalized for doing something wrong. It's just that Ray's storyline is coming to an end.
Wasn't it his choice, or at least a mutual decision? I Courtney Ford aka Mrs. Brandon Routh is leaving to, isn't she?

Quoted for truth.

Routh may have been caught off-guard by the story of LoT going in a direction that ends Ray's story, but he's not being written out of the show maliciously.

I'm not certain, but I get the impression that it's because the writers just decided it was the right time to end Ray and Nora's story arcs. Honestly, I can't blame them, since it seems like they've struggled to give Ray a purpose these past couple of seasons.

I agree that his role may not be important, but I love his interactions with everybody especially with Nate.
It reminds me of how some of my friends and I interacted with eachother.

I guess I'm ok with Ray leaving, since yeah, as a character he wasn't going anywhere anymore. But I'm rewatching Arrow right now, and from the moment he walked in in season 2 he was just such a loveable guy. Routh really brings something to the table.
I know that a lot of people didn't like Superman Returns, but I did, and one of the biggest reasons is Routh's Clark Kent/Superman.

I think firing him will be huge mistake. If they don't know what to do with him that is the writers. He is basically the heart of the show and his leaving also hurts the Nate character by ending their friendship. Plus he is one the orginal characters making him a core character. I think they fired him because they feel they got a younger, cheaper, female version in Mona as the flaky nerd. She makes sense with demographics and salary for show that doesn't get good ratings. I like the Mona character but I think they underestimate the popularity and imporantance of the Ray character. To me this feels like a studio mandate and it will be telling if they add a younger male hunk to the cast. Jason

When I saw Superman Returns, I thought Routh was poorly cast as Superman. Then I saw him as Ray Palmer and realized he could've been great as Superman -- the problem wasn't the actor, it was how he was directed.

Hm, I see what you mean, but I actually still enjoy what he did with the part. Actually, I might make it my sunday-evening movie tonight

Ok, so I watched the season all the way, finishing a few weeks ago. I'll admit, it did grow on me a bit, and I'm actually missing watching it. I still say Season 1 was absolutely great, Season 2 was atrocious and Season 3 had major issues (I mostly skipped/skimmed the first half of Season 3 because of how "off" the season felt, although it had some decent stuff in the second half), but even if I'd prefer LoT to not be a farce it does allow enough emotion and serious story in to make me invested even in the middle of the b"comedy". Getting into more specifics, mostly about the cast:

I think that Constantine being mostly serious (and the humor that he is a part of not coming from him being an idiot like it does for most of the cast) really helps the show. Also, Zari is a surprisingly good part of the show. Not quite as good as Constantine, and nobody beats Mick for me now that Victor's gone, but she actually has a personality and story beyond the farcical stuff and she ended up being someone I was always interested in seeing get screen time. Its especially impressive since I think I outright skipped her introduction when I was skimming past the beginning of Season 3, but she turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

Charlie, while not a favorite (she's good, but not someone I'm just waiting to show up), was also a good edition. Take a good actress, but remove the reminders of the terrible Season 2 by making her an actually interesting character. Mick is as amazing as ever, with even more layers to him that should be too silly but are actually good character growth. Nate had that stuff with his Dad that was kind of boring, and I wish he was leaving instead of Ray, but the thing that really annoys me about him is how he almost never uses his powers even in life threatening circumstances. I know that the show has a budget of $1.25, but it is actually annoying how little he uses his power, you can easily forget that he even has powers, and its not like he's a particularly expensive effect. Put a green screen suit on a stunt actor (under the superhero costume), and you have Steel ready to go.

Ray got hurt the worst by the idiot beam in the last few seasons, becoming basically a parody of his old self, but his stuff with Nora was pretty good so at least he got a bit more to do besides be Nate's rather stupid sidekick all the time. Nora was interesting, I loathe Damian darhk as a villain (a great actor with a role written worse then Vandal savage in Season 1), but Nora actually turned out well. Sara was ok when she wasn't being an incompetent buffoon, and Ava worked well with her (although the time bearu stuff is still fairly stupid), but she's definitely one of the characters hurt most by being made much stupider then she was in the beginning. Gary can fuck off, he's never been funny, he's just annoying and pointless. Mona is just there, I don't have strong feelings about her character either way.

So to me modern Legends of Tomorrow, while still a lot worse then it used to be, is overall a decent show (based on Season 4). I'd put it above Supergirl or post Season 3 Arrow, but far below Flash or Batwoman. I will kind of miss Nora when she leaves in the next season, but Ray at this point has pretty much lost his purpose so I can see the show maybe adding a new character that has more story potential, even if I'm a fan of Ray from back when he was a competent hero/scientist.

The one thing I will admit to with Legends, is the characters never using their powers anymore. There are a lot of situations where you would expect people like Nate to use his powers, or Ray to use his suit, but they rarely did. At times it almost felt like the writers have forgotten the characters even are superheroes. I still love the show, but it would be nice if they put at least a bit more superheroics in more of the episode.
