Black Knight is an odd choice to be part an Eternals film. I don't know of any connection between the two properties other than Sersi and Dane both being Avengers.
They dated during that time, but it's an odd choice to me too. Especially since there's no way they can do the character justice along with everything else.

I can't see how they can considering there's also ten Eternals that need to be introduced and given story arcs of their own to various degrees. There are a lot of moving parts already.

Civil War had even more characters. And depending what purpose they have in mind for Dane Whitman, is he going to be a point of view character or or is he being introduced for future project ala Peter Parker in Civil War? Peter Parker was only in eight and a half minutes of Civil War, but they clearly established Peter, his character, what he could do and his motivations in that time.

Sure Civil War had more, but aside from Peter Parker (who doesn't need much), Black Panther, and Zemo, we knew everyone. The Eternals is starting from scratch and most people outside of comic fans won't know who any of them are, and many comic fans won't either. That's a lot of work.

Dane Whitman is probably going to be the Eternals' link to the modern mortal world. Given his ties to Sersi and Ikaris, it makes sense. His character concept is extremely cool and I'm really looking forward to seeing how they handle the Ebony Blade.

Make the original medieval Black Knight an associate of the Eternals or maybe even an Eternal himself. Dane’s his descendant and the Ebony Blade is an Eternal relic. His DNA or whatever makes him the only one who can wield it, so the Eternals induct his unsuspecting self into their world. There, it all dovetails.

The other way you can do it - Dane is a reincarnation of an earlier Black Knight, encounters Sersi and knows her (because they were lovers) - lots of options but I do suspect he starts as an nobody.

Isn't there something a bit weird about the Black Knight being the link to the modern world?

My fear is they'll just have Dane Whitman and not Black Knight. No costume, no ebony blade, nothing but his name and his relationship with Sersi.

If this movie spans centuries, I do like the idea of Black Knight's ancestor appearing. That would be a good way to handle it, but my fear is that's not what they'll do.

Even if he's 'just' Whitman in this movie, he'd be Black Knight eventually. Nothing to worry about there, imo.

Can Disney legally riff on movies they don't own?

The reason I ask is this news that What If is apparently going to present alternate takes on every current film in the MCU even though two of those films aren't Marvel Studios property despite being set in their universe.

The Spider-Man films?

It's safe to say they might not do any What Ifs based on them unless an agreement is reached.

It was just announced yesterday that What If will cover all 23 films in the MCU, but without the two Spidey films, the MCU only consists of 21 films, not 23... hence why I wanted to know if Disney can actually do what they're claiming that What If will do.

Plans change as circumstances change. Nothing is set in stone. It's pretty obvious that Spidey is off the table for now.
