The Omega Glory
I just noticed we started this glorious production order rewatch a year ago last week with the Cage. And where's that no good OP who got me into this and then disappeared????
Second episode in row where we see another Connie.
"Lieutenant, have Mister Spock, Doctor McCoy, and this week's designated redshirt who's going to die report to the transporter room."
I wonder how long the Exeter has been orbiting Omega IV. Six months? Remember those episodes where the Enterprise's orbit is going to decay in a matter of hours if not minutes? The Exeter's crew knew how to maintain an orbit even while dead.
"All four of the craft are still here." Connies seem to have a standard complement of four shuttlecraft.
" If you've come aboard this ship, you're dead men." You'd think they'd have better protocols for beaming into potentially infectious environments.
Tracey's taking the loss of his crew better than Decker did.
"A star captain's most solemn oath is that he will give his life, even his entire crew, rather than violate the Prime Directive. " Yeah, ,okay, Jim, I think I've seen you weasel out of that a few times.
Tracey just shot Galway for no reason! What a dick! This is what you get when you let a Tantalus Colony escapee command a starship.
As Kirk and Tracey engage in a Kirk Fu-off...and Tracey wins with a chop to Kirk's neck! Tracey out-Kirk Fued Kirk!
Kirk: "I don't think we have the right or the wisdom to interfere, however a planet is evolving. " Who are you and what have you done with Jim Kirk?
More Kirk Fu as Kirk employs a chopnado attack against Cloud William to beat him and prove that despite the loss to Tracey he hasn't lost his touch.
I think getting whacked on the back of the head with a steel bar usually results in death. Or at least a concussion.
Tracy is so much more unhinged next time we see him with the impending Yang attack. Maybe some more time under the neural neutraliser?
Maybe the Enterprise could stun the Yangs like they did the gangsters.
So I assume the Yangs wiped out the Coms and their village? This is a really bloody episode even if we don't see most of it.
Yanks and Coms, complete with an American flag. ANOTHER parallel Earth????
Is Cloud William really going to believe Tracey after he's killed thousands of his people?
"Is it not written that Good will out-Kirk Fu Evil?"
What are the odds they actually have a bible with a picture of Satan looking like Spock? What am I saying, they have an American flag and a US constitution.
I'm sure Spock picks Sirah to use the Force on randomly and not because she's only a woman with a weaker mind, right?
Why didn't Cloud William make Tracey try to say the holy words?
Kirk just happens to have the US Constitution memorized.
So I see there was a need in the 60's to remind everyone that the constitution must count for everyone or it is meaningless. Shall I make a comment on how this relates in the US today? Nah.
Kirk: "We merely showed them the meaning of what they were fighting for. Liberty and freedom have to be more than just words. Gentlemen, the fighting is over here. I suggest we leave them to discover their history and their liberty." What did I say earlier about Kirk weaseling out of the Prime Directive?
It's a compelling episode. Once again Morgan Woodward gives a great performance and really makes the episode. Tracey is a very formidable villain who in some ways out-Kirks Kirk. Good stuff.
I am reminded that Woodward just died in February at the age of 93. RIP to one with TWO memorable TOS performances.
