Not sure why that's a problem, given that not only would it make sense that cultures have varying styles of clothing like they do in real life (within the US today, you got Amish communities which dress in a very conservative fashion drawn from the past, to people who favor low-cut crop tops and short shorts), but DSC is set awhile before TOS when the TOS uniforms were first seen.

I didn’t say it was a problem. I made the comment because other people apparently thought it resembled the TOS uniform, which it doesn’t.

    Oh, okay.

Don't see the TOS resemblance, either. Looks more like a new thing more inspired by the the costumes from the other movies and TV shows.

L'Rell and Voq had shirts in Season 1 that looked very TOS.

The episode where they go to scavenge parts from the Shenzhou, there are some scenes where they're out of uniform/armour.

It looks TOS in the way that it looks like a Fu-Manchu brownface throwback. Which - quite honestly - for aliens, I'm weirdly okay with?

All hail Emperor Ming the Merciless!

Yeah, I’m not seeing the resemblance.

It's just the colour and texture.

I see it more in the general cut of the garments, and their material in how it lays on the character.

It's not one to one but it is evocative to my eye.

Yikes, the more I look at that pic of L'Rell, the more it looks like a Skyrim screenshot of a random Orc NPC... the cut of the shirt fits the game's aesthetics perfectly, the lighting/shadows and the background make it look like she's in a Dwemer ruin, and her pose looks almost exactly like a the game's default NPC idling animation... just a little food for thought if someone wanted to make more Orc comparisons.

Klingons of this era usually look better in softer fabrics and outfits. Maybe we're spoiled by 52 years of seeing smooth-headed Augment Klingons in mesh fabric uniforms with black undershirts but the TOS outfits just kind of fit the smooth-headed Klingons' demeanor and appearance.

    No pun intended.

I'd like to see a live-action version of the TAS Klingon uniforms.
...just not in that pukey purplish-pinkish hue. :ack:

Just like seeing the Kzinti in an ENT Season 5 might have been interesting, just not in their original pink color from TAS.

No. Pink + Purple Klingon and Kzinti or no deal.

was at the paley center last night where they showed "if memory serves" and had a Q&A with glenn hetrick and gersha phillips. hetrick stressed emphatically that they always planned for the klingons to be bald in season one and then grow their hair in season two, which we've heard before and i never really believed.

but his knowledge of klingon culture surprised me and his explanation was one i hadn't heard before: they were bald not because they were at war, but because the empire was not unified. it's kind of odd that they'd all adopt the same style when they're NOT unified and then freely express themselves when they are. but that was his explanation last night.

The explanation for why they were bald has changed like 3-4 times since before Season 1 even aired. They can't seem to stick to one idea.

According to Mary, the shaving for war idea came from Glenn, so he's contradicting himself here apparently, or just changed his mind.
