Spoilers Game of Thrones: The Final Season

"It's been mentioned a few times..."

You have been preaching for the last 50 pages of this thread how the show is going to end exactly like the books and they know exactly what will happen because they've had extensive talks with GRRM where he told them exactly how things are gonna go down.

You want to prove that? Because I don't recall ever saying anything of the sort, either "in the last 50 pages of this thread" or anywhere else, for that matter.

Circling back to the question of backlash and whether or not it's justified because of the show establishing a pattern of "subverting tropes", let me ask people a question:
Did any of the examples of the show "subverting tropes" (killing Ned, the Red Wedding, etc.) result in people vandalizing David Benioff and D.B. Weiss' Wikipedia pages?

Because that's what has happened here (said vandalism was undone and the pages have now been protected, but it did occur).

Of course, in the most technical sense Jon fulfilled his vow, dying in the line of duty. His resurrection is an odd loophole that has opened up a whole new can of worms. But yes, in terms of any legalities, Jon should be ok to be Lord of Winterfell, King on the Iron Throne, or Mr. Danearys Targaryen if he wants.

I think once Jon died, he fulfilled his duty to the Night's Watch, and he is free to live his life as if he never joined. So I agree with you.

Does Dany have green eyes? Having Arya kill her could work.

I don't think Arya should kill Cersei. I wouldn't be up in arms if she did, but I think it should actually be Jamie.

Having Dany descend into madness and become a villain does help with solving the answer as to who should be on the Iron Throne. It will be very interesting, because they still have a lot of characters that are alive, and not too many things to have happen.

So because a few people are childishly responding to a show that is some how proof you are right?

'Tis a silly hill you are choosing to die on, but, I'm not surprised.

I want to talk some shit, but I made a very dumb Star Wars prediction and can never be taken seriously again... :-(

I feel like a local (and mostly retired) SLC-area radio host who always used to need the "meditation music" whenever something got so bad that it was becoming physically impossible for him to go on a rant.

People can defend this crap all they want, but it doesn't lessen the legitimacy of the backlash, and I'm honestly done talking about it.

Enjoy the trash writing and the even more trash ending; I'm going to most likely end up "hatewatching" the final two episodes of the series, but after that I'm just going to let the entire thing fade into the background of my consciousness for a while before I decide whether or not I still want to add the entire series to my TV DVD collection the way I said that I was going to just yesterday.

It's been mentioned a few times how the way David and Dan are choosing to end the series seems to be 'consistent with what they were told by GRRM', but that's the problem: they haven't been told anything by GRRM as per their own admission (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/...owrunners-unaware-george-rr-martin-books-end/). He (GRRM) has said that the ending of the TV show will bear some general similarities to how he's planning on ending the novels, but that's not because David and Dan know anything about said ending.

This article, also from DigitalSpy, says something different.

Martin told Rolling Stone: "I mean, I think... the major points of the ending will be things that I told [Weiss and Benioff], you know, five or six years ago.

"But there may also be changes, and there'll be a lot added."

Source is this Rolling Stone interview.

So, George R.R. Martin did - some time in 2013 or 2014 - inform D&D how the book series ends.

What the article you linked to said was something different, which doesn't conflict:

"So one thing we've talked to George about is that we're not going to tell people what the differences are, so when those books come out people can experience them fresh."

Benioff continued: "And George discovers a lot of stuff while he's writing. I don't think that final book is written in stone yet — it's not written on paper yet.

"As George says, he's a gardener and he's waiting to see how those seeds blossom."

Weiss added: "It's kind of nice for him [George RR Martin] because — obviously through necessity we've pulled out ahead — the show has become so different [in recent seasons] that people will have no way knowing from watching what will or won't appear in the books."

Basically what they're saying is they've both diverged from the books, and they can no longer say if what GRRM's intent for the endgame was back in 2013/2014 is still his intended endgame. And they're not going to explain the differences so as not to spoil the books (if they ever appear).

By doing a quick search of your posts in this thread containing the word ending:

especially since we know that, while the specifics might differ, the general outline for the ending of the television series is going to be the same as that of the novels.

GRRM has openly and very recently said that the conclusion to the television series and his novels will be similar in a general sense but different in the specifics.

Admittedly I expected to find more, so I'll concede that you haven't been banging on that much on this particular point as you did on some others in this thread.

You've been exposed. You were portraying yourself as a pontificating know-it-all, but the moment something went wrong with your predictions you turned into a blabbering fanboy, using Twitter as proof of something, and pretending to speak for the entire fanbase of a show being watched by 17 million people. You should take a step back and rethink things.

You definitely should *not* get the DVD collection. Go with Blu Ray, or, even better, 4k! ;)
Don't go with 4k with this one! First of all, only season 1 is available in 4k and second of all, the source for the transfer was just 2k. Also the 4k blu ray format sucks because of it's density. A tiny scratch destroys a huge amount of data, often more than error correction algorithms can compensate for.

If I have a choice, I buy all of my television offerings in the DVD format.

Blu-ray is reserved for movies.

Some TV shows are filmed on ah... film (awkward sentence) and all of them are at least filmed in 2k, so you are missing out on a lot of detail by going with SD...
