Spoilers Game of Thrones: The Final Season

My description of ASoIaF as more of a "political series with Fantasy trappings" came, as I noted, from individuals at the Game of Thrones website Winter is Coming whom I know have read the novels because they said as much in the segment I watched wherein the series was described thusly, but is also clearly my own opinion, which you are very much free to disagree with.
You truly are a piece of work you arrogant hypocrite. Last week you criticised me for apparently not understanding the source material and YOU HAVEN'T EVEN READ THEM.

Fucking unbelievable.

That little scene where Jon gets hit in the chest and rubs it, plus talk of the Lord of Light not caring after the Night King and his forces are defeated seems to be saying that Jon is on limited time and the resurrection magic is fading.

or is it the opposite and the Lord of Light has gifted him a normal life and not just a resurrected body.

Yes, I wondered about why it seemed to have hurt him. It is also possible that magic will disappear from the world or will lessen with the death of each dragon as it seemed to have increased after the birth of the dragons. The dragons must have hatched before Beric’s first death.

Cersei went full on evil queen in season 6. No remorse, no redemption. Since season 1, she played wicked witch in her attempt to remain in power and attain more power for herself (Queen by Marriage - Queen Regent (widowed) - Queen Mother - Queen monarch).

Dany has been on the slippery slope to not give into her Targaryen instincts and bring fire and blood to those who oppose her. She's tempered her worst instincts for several seasons now, but Cersei is just "that bitch". Kings Landing is going to burn.

Dragon Fire/Wild Fire chain reaction incoming.

Bloody hell, Jon. Too honorable for your own good.

I was pretty impressed with Emilia Clarke's acting this episode. It was quite unsettling to see the rage on her face as she screamed after Rhaegal died. Same at the very end after Missandei -- the look of absolute contempt at Cersei. The fight between the two of them just got extremely personal, which works for me.

Got a real shock with Rhaegal. Completely caught off guard as the dragon theme swelled and then - boom.

Brienne... that was heartbreaking.

I found this episode quite stressful to watch.

Thoughts for next episode: Is Drogon going to get armored up?

Solid episode. One thing we are learning is that Dany is clearly not the right person to win the Iron Throne, which I find very interesting, since they have set her up that way since season 1.

It says a lot about her character that she knows she doesn't have the proper claim, but won't step aside. That says that she cares about power over justice.

Sansa telling Tyrion was wrong, even if she did it for the right reasons.

Dany has a killer instinct. She not only cares more about her crown than Jon, but it's clear that she cares more about it than the very people she expects to rule--people that she has not won over.

Sansa had a very good point about resting and waiting to take King's Landing. Very good writing to have the line that they were "evenly matched."

I love the idea of armoring the last dragon. Dany's strategy has always been overwhelm them with force. But Cersei has the superior technology. Dany was outsmarted by an enemy that actually prepared for her.

Cersei also has the ability to not care about her subjects, and use them as human shields. Dany apparently has no problem with sacrificing her subjects over pride.

I love that even though we see that Dany is no more worthy than Cersei, Jon doesn't want it. Could they pull a swerve and set Sansa on the throne? Is she worthy?

Seems like Jon is the only one worthy of the throne. But I have no idea who will actually end up there.

Two Northern women are in for a night of pleasure. You can see them in the background of The Hound/Sansa scene leaving the hall with Podrick Payne.

Rhaegal's death was shocking and sums up the show's end theme for me. 1 Dragon and 2 Targaryen's basically means that Westeros has only room for one Targaryen. I would like to know how one has a Naval fleet surprise them when you have Dragons in the air and can see for miles

Dany has become the very thing I feared from the start, THE MAD QUEEN.

The exact moment sat at the table, when that paranoid look crossed her face was the moment she became the next Tyrant, the next villain waiting in the wings. She has always lusted for power like everyone who has ever set their eyes upon the Iron Throne and such a leader will always become the true enemy. Jon is not only the rightful heir to the Throne under the laws of the Seven Kingdom but he is the right person.

There can be no peace as long as Cersi or Dany remain alive, the last scene shown that. One will fall to Ayra and the other...

We'll see ;)

PS - There's an image doing the rounds on Twitter, they left a Starbucks cup in a shot by accident at the dinner/drinks scene :guffaw:

Everyone comes up with the idea of armoring a dragon, but it never gets off the ground.
Which is strange to me, as dragonscale is supposed to be one of the strongest natural armors in fantasy.

“My armor is iron” -Smaug
“My armor is your mom” -The Dragonborn of Skyrim

They don't have much of a choice. Their agreement with GRRM included being faithful to the story elements and the novels. They even had to pass a test, guessing Jon Snow's mother, in order to be awarded the contract so to speak.

GRRM has openly and very recently said that the conclusion to the television series and his novels will be similar in a general sense but different in the specifics.

David and Dan didn't need to manufacture a conflict between Jon and Dany and Dany and her advisors in order to get to their ending even if it wasn't going to be a 'conventional happy one'.a

I read an offhand comment that David and Dan were going on vacation the night of the series finale in order to avoid the backlash from fans, but dismissed it because, like Tyrion did with Cersei, I made a mistake in trusting them.

It turns out that I shouldn't have, though, and so while I will finish watching the series and purchase it in its entirety on home media, my quasi-obsessive love affair with it is ended and I will not be watching any of the prequel spinoffs.

The other issue is even if they could make armor in the fortnight before Jon gets there, the armor could only cover the dragon's body, not its wings. This would save Drogo from being killed in air, but not really save him from the risk of being grounded.

That said, just because it's logistically stupid doesn't mean they won't do it.

My first thought at all those pyres in the beginning was "how is there any wood left in Winterfell for that?"
The area the White Walkers attacked from is all forest.

Even if there was wood nearby, they'd need hella manpower cutting it down for all those pyres.

At least, since it's the dead of winter, the bodies weren't rotting over the presumed weeks it would take.
