So the trailer came out for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, starring James Marsden and Jim Carrey. Not sure yet what to make of it. Looks like it could either be a wacky Jim Carrey comedy or a total trainwreck, or maybe both?

Carreys Robotnik has gone from being the main thing I thought would tank this movie, to being the best thing about it. The Sonic aspect of it keeps getting worse and frankly, he looks so fucking horrible I actually think they want Ivo to be the hero of this movie. Watching a more self centered narcissist version of Tony Stark slowly descending into madness and losing everything trying to end this little blue shit.

Yep. Thought that he did a good job with it (Robotnik wise). As for the rest... it's movie rental fodder.
Yeah, Sonic looks pretty bad. I agree that it would have been better to focus the movie on Robotnik and his descent into madness. Apparenrtly, at cinemacon, there was an alt trailer that focused more on Robotnik and made him the center of the movie. Maybe not even show us Sonic close up, just keep him as a fast blur across the screen?

He is surprisingly good, as long as the "breastfed" joke was removed in the final cut. Yeah, there was a leak of that line from the script.

More than anything else, I'm just tired of films taking classic characters out of their self-contained worlds and putting them in the "real world" for the fish-out-of-water effect, like they did with the Smurfs and others I'm blanking on the moment.

I’d rather see the behind the scenes material to see if he went full method actor and started turning animals into robots.
I generally don't bother with his, but his performance in this might be the only good thing about it.
The final scene looks like it's the Mushroom Hill Zone, so they might be implying he goes to Mobius at some point.
Which is bad, it'll *all* be CGI then, and by what they've shown so far...oh no.
Speaks to horrible state of this movie, to say that you are probably right. Who grin lit this thing? Are all the companies not named Disney so desperate to put out content that no idea is too bad?
Paramount bought the rights to make a Sonic movie several years ago and it's been in a development hell ever since until now. They found a group willing to do the CGI and enough of a cast to do it.
Sonic hit a high point with Unleashed and Colours in 2008-2010 and Generations for it's 20th anniversary in 2011, Paramount paid a still undisclosed amount to have the exclusive rights to a movie thinking they could profit off it. Then...Lost World came out and tanked hard, Sega made the BOOM spinoff universe (a rebooted reality) from 2014-2017 when Forces came out and went back to Sonics version of its Prime universe.
By then, no one cared about a movie. This is a train wreck that won't seem to end.
I'm terrified that my 6 year old son will see a trailer or a poster and want to see this... thing.
