They've got time (!), the repair drones, advanced labs and a lot of unused internal space in the Disco. I really hope they play on this and avoid the Voyager handwave reset routine that blighted their 'lone ship survival' arc.

A small crew also opens up possibilities to bolster their compliment with recruits, waifs and strays from their new time period. Like Neelix. But not...

We'll see if they're even safe for any length of time first.

"Season 3 - 32nd century. Federation is destroyed. Borg are everywhere. All centient life has been assimilated. Valiant crew of USS Discovery must use the spore drive and the Time Suit to discover when Federation fell and prevent it from happening. They must fix the past to protect their future and save the rest of the Galaxy."

Bookmark it. This is what season 3 is going to be about. You heard it here first :barf:

I don;t understand why Kurtzman felt restricted by canon. Even if you wanted to do a prequel just call it a alternate universe and all those issues go away. I and many others have been saying that from the start. Also for all we know this trip to the future is a future of a altered timeline. When you travel to the future you can change the past since people in the future have traveled to the past making a impact on the timeline going all the way back to the Big Bang when Q sent "Voyager" their. Which means the timeline has always been a altered timeline from the beginning only people didn't know it because they didn't know their universe would basically be created in the future with "Discovery" going to the future thus creating one of those looped timelines were future comes before past and you have the chicken vs egg issue as to what came first.

These Gilmore girls writers aren’t capable of creating a 32 century universe

Do not insult Gilmore Girls, that show has far superior writing quality!

While I would prefer some sci-fi writers, Trek has gotten some decent mileage over the years from folks with little experience working in it. Including Gene Roddenberry.

So I'll definitely give Paradise and company the opportunity to impress me.

It still remains to be seen how much of the apparent nonsensicalness of the plot was due the backstage chaos. I hope that they can start and finish the next season with the same people at the helm. If they do and it is still a similar mess then it is a lost cause.

If they are at Terralysium, will there really be much of the Federation involved? Especially if there's no Spore Drive available.

Seems like reasonable family resemblance to Frain and Peck:

They tried writing out Spore drive out for season 2. How long did that last exactly? Half an episode or less?

I know in movies often bad writing which is full of plot holes is not due to the writers being dumber than a box of hammers. It's because different factions in production - from the director to the actors to the studio - demand selective rewrites of certain scenes, which results in things which seem to massively conflict with other elements of the script. Thus I'd guess Discovery's flaws in writing come down to bad showrunning rather than bad writing per se. The writers were putting in at least competent first drafts which made some logical sense, and people higher up the food chain made a mess of it.

Meh. I fine with Sybok existing. The character was interesting enough.

However, the in-universe reason that he wasn't mentioned in DSC could be that Sybok was enough of a black sheep who (even as a young teen) was already off doing his own thing by the time Burnham was brought in by Amanda and Sarek that there was no relevant reason for him to be mentioned on screen by any of them in DSC.

Agreed! I'm finding myself liking almost all your posts, Starflight. :)

While I don't think the time jump was necessary, it could just be that the writers want to tell larger stories that this setting doesn't allow for. To your point, big universe-changing plots.

This is the exact reason why I never cared for the Xindi plotline in the third season of Enterprise. That was an arc that could've been done on any of the other series and wasn't specific to the time period the show was set in. We saw Earth in TNG, DS9, and VOY and in nearly every single film. We knew from the moment the Xindi threat was identified that Earth was in zero danger of being destroyed. Plus, an event THAT significant surely could have been talked about at least one time on the other shows.

This is why, i think, "Galaxy Ending Catastrophic Threat #875" or whatever number needs to be avoided in the future. We're immune to it. It's a dare. Ok.. do it. End the galaxy. make my tv go blank and no more star trek forever. I'l be angry at the show runners but be glad they finally delivered. Instead they could just deal with regular drama and keep the danger on the personal level most of the time.

I don't think the broken 'transparent aluminum' pane (or whatever er material it is), nor the fact Georgiou magnetized the Chamber will be a lot to repair. Paul Stamets OTOH may need quite a bit of recovery time from his injuries.

Agreed. The threatening of Earth of the destruction of the Federation were things we knew would never happen. And I'm sure the writers knew that we were aware of it. But one huge paradigm shift of the Trek framework would be massive and prove to us that those behind it wouldn't be afraid to up the stakes.

Transwarp my friend...Transwarp...(which the Federation was trying to figure out in the 24th century...800 years later... ;)

I'll be interested to see IF they pull any further canon from the 23rd century in that in TOS S2 - "By Any Other Name"; the Kelvins (of the Andromeda Galaxy) were looking for another Galaxy to conquer and live in as theirs was going to be uninhabitable within a Millennia. Kirk said the Federation could send 'Robot Ships' with a proposal - and the travel time between the Galaxies (with more advanced kelvin warp tech) was 300 years.
    ^^^
That means there COULD have been an extra-Galactic invasion of the Milky Way in the 29th or any later century; or even have it start now as with 950 years gone, it's a safe bet the Kelvins have already had to leave and go to/invade whatever nearby Galaxies were reported as 'habitable'. ;)

[And yes, MAYBE they would respond to a peaceful proposal to 'share' - but it didn't appear that 'true' Kelvins had that capacity.]

It's Dr. Whoish. Which is not a compliment, although I do like some Dr. Who. But the later Moffett years reeked of desperation ... how to up the stakes once again? Can we threaten the galaxy? Nope, we've done that. How about the universe? Nope, done that too. How about the universe for all time, past and future, such that the universe never existed? Hmmm, maybe yes. That could work. We'll bring back The Master for that.

    Sigh.
