Oh hey, did we get Number One's name as "Una". Thought I heard Pike call her that during his order for her to return to the bridge.
At least that door had a window so Pike could see what was going on.
That was a turbolift he was in.Pretty damn convenient that the single door protected Pike yet it took a big chunk out of the surrounding portion of the ship anyway.
Obviously it was really about the plot armor, not the emergency bulkhead. Someone really should have sat the writers down and explained that just because something makes great dramatic sense doesn't mean it makes good logical sense. Even just having Pike get into a turbolift or something would have made it more excusable.
Why are you so sure the Federation is gone? There are other avenues that they can go with. Let's wait and see what they come up with *before* complaining. Yeah, I know this is the Internet and all, but it might actually be good!I know they feel as though they've freed themselves from the continuity police with this clever plot device, but they really haven't. The complaining isn't going to stop by going into the future. If you rip apart the Federation, Trek fans will just complain "you weren't content to destroy the past? now you destroy Trek's future too?" and "omg nothing Kirk and PIcard do matters because the Federation will just die anyway".
You can't win with Trek fans. You can't out-clever them, this isn't Star Wars.
It is a silly contrivance. Agreed. I was noting the internal plot logic only. I mean, a blast door that could contain a M/AM explosion is nonsense; to have a window in the blast door is nonsense on stilts.I guess, but it just strikes me as a silly contrivance of the sort Discovery is guilty of way too often. I didn't get the point of that whole sequence, as we subsequently see that the front half of the saucer section has been blown off. Nice try, Admiral Cornwell.

Conversely we've had two series focused on the pre/TOS era. Time for something new imo.
I hear you on that. However, some people need those connections made nice and clear. Here is why none of these things are never mentioned again! One issue I had was when Pike, Spock, Number One, and Tyler all told Starfleet Intelligence they'd never speak of Discovery or the Spore Drive ever again. That reeked of bowing down to Angry Fans. Same with Number One's line in the previous episode of "We'll never have holographic communicators again." Lines like those take me out of it because I know why they're there.
There's hope for a spin off :Excellent interview with Kurtzman that probably addresses some of the criticisms folks might have (and he does a good job, I think). I was questioning the choice to not show what happened to Discovery, but I can't really argue with his logic.

I agree with you on all counts, except for S3. I am taking the advice of many in here. Because I now am convinced that this new Star Trek is just not for me. To all others, live long and prosper.I'm not a hater of this show by any means but I don't get this at all.
More and more I just feel like the people behind this show don't know what they are doing. Like they had an original plan but audience reaction keeps causing them to change their plans, and now they are throwing blindly, hoping something will hit.
I WANT TO defend this show, but at this stage, just give us a pike and spock show and let it end.
I'll of course give S3 a chance but I do not have high hopes.

I'll look out for that on the re-watch.
