USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

A cosmetically reconfiguring bridge that is never heard of again would be on course for Trek's, very, very long list of one-hit tech wonders that are never heard of again.

The bridge IS the TOS bridge, updated for modern audiences. And geez -- they went to excruciating pains to cater to TOS fundamentalists in the update. It wasn't a JJ-Prise "how the E would look if it was designed with 21st century art direction", it was "By golly, we're going to make it a 100% recognizable pseudo-copy of the 1960s set, yet fit it to DSC aesthetics".

Read the interview with the set designer. They matched the scale of bridge pretty precisely. They kept all the stations in relative position to the Captain's chair. They off-set the turbolift. Heck, they even included Spock's blue-viewscreen, jelly-bean switches, and random blinky lights!

I'm sorry you didn't see the TOS bridge there, because I most certainly did. In fact, every scene on the Enterprise was a faithful nod to the original.

You're free to believe what you want. And that graciousness is paid with "Not all theories are equal", basically saying "Your theory is inferior to our theory". If that's what it's going to come down to, I wish people would just say it instead of trying to pretend otherwise.

Were you arguing with yourself? Because you quoted your own post.

Those shows aired a long time ago. You have to realize there are people watching Discovery who weren't even born yet.

There were people watching DS9 and Enterprise first run who weren't even born yet.

Trying to sell them the candy buttons would have been folly.

Yet those buttons are on the Discovery version.

I was referring to people not being born when DS9 and ENT were on. I edited my post to change "yet" to "then."

Yet those buttons are on the Discovery version.

After two years, in the console corners, and mostly to appease some really loud people.

They couldn't launch DSC with a console full of jolly ranchers when Gen Y's been using touchscreens for years.

Pretty much, yeah.

Those shows aired a long time ago. You have to realize there are people watching Discovery now who weren't even born then.

Not that many.

Not that many.

Percentage-wise probably not, but the point is to put in perspective how long ago those shows were. The poster I was replying to was acting like they came out last year or something, when there are people applying for college who were infants, or not even born when ENT was on the air.

ETA: There are people graduating college who weren't born when "Trials and Tribble-ations" was on.

You're becoming unnecessarily personal in your responses. So I think I'm done talking to you.

How is pointing out that me explaining something means I understand it "personal"?

That is the weirdest excuse to avoid admitting to being wrong you've come up with so far.

Well, it really isn't. That set was torn down in 1969, shortly after the cancellation of TOS. What is in Discovery is a modern interpretation by folks who were never involved with TOS.
Don't be pedantic. You know what I meant.

And actually, some of the jelly-bean switches are apparently authentic TOS bridge pieces (sent from James Cawley).

No doubt.

CBS All Access's viewership is remarkably old for a streaming service - although about six out of ten of their viewers are in the coveted 18-49 year age-range* their average viewer is 44 years old.

*Yeah, I know - calling this group "coveted" has gotten almost as over-used as calling anything "iconic."

I quoted my own post to show how i started expressing my own opinion and didn't try to deride others'. To emphasize that sort of thing is being done not by me.

Also, designer interviews aren't canon.
