Why does the Federation have nanites more advanced then even the Borg 100+ years before The Next Generation?
They don't. Future!Control came back via the wormhole from Burnham's mother's latest incursion and brought the design with it.

A couple things. First, the suit was disabled by an EMP, so I think the containment field would have to be released before she could power it on again.

Second, Controleland blasts a hole in the suit, disabling it to be worn. That's why she yelled Nooo! The suit is probably not usable anymore.

That's exactly how I saw that unfold.

Ugggghhhhhhhghhghghhhhhhhh

I love this show, and I love the cast immensely, but this wasn't a great episode by any stretch. It kind of feels like the last two episodes have really gone off the tracks.
I feel like the last two episodes should've been combined into one--regular length not extended. That would have been an action packed episode where they capture the RA and we got to know her mom before she was snatched away again.

I'm wonder if they actually split this episode in two and extended the parts to expand the season?

I think the thing that I can't really get over is that the season started so damn promising. They were dealing with a compelling and awesome mystery. It felt like the season would be about the mystery and the adventures they encounter while chasing the answer to the mystery down.
That was my thought back then. And, I think that would've been somewhat better than what we've got. Although, I've certainly enjoyed the season for the most part. However, there have been several episodes that were muddled. Having a mystery that forced them to explore really far out to get clues and solve the problems the RA was leading them to would've been great fun.

Ah! My eye read that as the suit activating as Controleland interrupted the forcefield, but upon reviewing, you're absolutely right. Good call on both accounts.

The one good thing the episode showed is the red bursts have nothing to do with the Red Angel. They're going to visit a red burst in the next episode. This means that some hint of the original mystery remains
Hear hear. That trailer for next week made me feel (slightly) optimistic as well.

Is a rogue genocidal AI pedestrian and hackneyed?
Um. Yes. You're joking, right?

It was interesting to hear Georgiou describe it as the Prime Universe on-screen. It doesn't seem to quite make sense for that to be terminology she uses, but OK!
A number of posters have mentioned this now... and I honestly didn't notice it. What scene was this?

* Culber is back in his uniform.
Did anyone else think that all-white getup looked an awful lot like a TMP-era uniform?...

Gabrielle is the female form of Gabriel, which means “hero of God”..... another “angel” reference  I wonder if Lorca is floating around in the future there too? Seems oddly coincidental.:devil:

The best thing about this episode was the reunion between Burnham and mom. Gabrielle initially refusing to engage with Michael made sense because of all the crazy time travel. Who knows, maybe they’d had this talk before, though the obvious emotional connection between them would argue otherwise. Very well acted scene between the two. I’v just recently started watching The Wire, so it’s kinda funny seeing this actor playing an intellectual.

Also liked the scenes between Phillips and Gabrielle. Phillipa is usually the one with the inside scoop so it was fun seeing the tables turned. She seemed especially perturbed that Gabrielle knew she was from the MU.

I was puzzled by the time tether holding onto Dr, Burnham and not just the suit. Nice Fx shot of mom and suit being pulled back to the future.

I think a Calypso tie-in would interesting but not holding my breath.

I kept whispering, ‘come on Phillipa, put it all together’. Well, she at least figured out that there was something wrong with Leland and his getting the sphere data was...bad.

For this part 2 of a 2 parter, I give a 7.5. The Gabrielle/Michael scene was the episode highlight.

Just to add: I’de love an end of season compilation of SMG’s patented “looks”. That one she hit Pike with after she was told her mother only wanted to see Pike and not her, was maybe my favorite of the season.

Oh, and Gabrielle knows about Pike’s fate. Wow.
