Your latest purchases, cont.

Another four pops - Admiral Ackbar, A White Walker, Tormund Giantsbane and Alice Cooper. I am not collecting Star Wars pops, I bought Ackbar because I absolutely love the Bobiverse books and in those books -

“GUPPI (or General Unit Primary Peripheral Interface) Is a semi-sentient software being that helps Replicants interact with the many systems they have at their disposal. For the BOB's, GUPPI was made to look and sound like Admiral Ackbar from "Star Wars".

As the various Bobs take the name and the image of various pop culture characters (Riker, Homer etc) I thought I might get the characters chosen by some of the Bobs.

Something about "the Bobs" seems familiar to me, but I've never read those books.

^^^ trekkiedane and I discussed the books in the reading thread, we are both great fans of the books. I have also mentioned them in the thread whenever I bought the paperback version of the books - I own each of the books in audiobook, eBook and paperback form. I wish more people had read them. I do belong to a Facebook group of Bob fans. The books have been optioned, if a movie is ever made the books might become wider known.

My whole life I've worn mostly Levis, Lee, and Calvin Klein jeans. They've always held up pretty well, as I don't torch them on high in the dryer. But then after the 3rd article I'd read about denim heads and the whole "selvedge" denim thing, I had to find out first hand. The only thing is, the price. Yikes, some jeans cost over $300!

Then I discovered a little "window" of opportunity. It's where someone bought more jeans than they can wear, and either hadn't worn them or seldom wore them, then put them up for sale on eBay. We're talking like $250 jeans going for $59.95. And $150 jeans for $35. You have to search around for a while to find something that is "just right" (good balance of condition and price)... and I finally did. Got a pair of J.Crew 770's, Tellason Ankara's, and Gustin's.

I'm totally happy and glad I finally got around to exploring high quality denim. Do it and you won't regret it! The only caveat is that you have to care for them like you're washing a fine merino wool sweater. Always cold water, preferably hand washed, and hung to dry. And... you don't wash 'em for quite a while. Some people go a few months without washing... yeah, I know--sounds pretty peculiar. But have to say, a really nice fitting pair of high quality jeans is quite a treat!

What benefit would NOT washing them have? Don’t they get gross?

One of the things I like most about jeans is their ease of care and not needing to do anything special with them. I'm not sure I'd be happy with jeans that I need to wash delicately.

The main thing for denim heads is about keeping the color... resisting the fade for as long as possible. So that's why they don't wash them much. If you shower daily and don't sweat much, they can go for a very long time. But recently there have been more detergents available that cater to color preservation. "Woolite Dark" is a popular one. Use a little of that in the bathtub with cool water, rinse, dry, and you're good to go.

Yeah, I couldn't deal with having an entire jeans wardrobe like that. I've got 3 pairs of these kinds of jeans that I'm going to hand wash. The rest will are more carefree. Also, these special ones are of a heavier denim that I definitely won't be wearing in the summer.

Levis had been a staple of mine for a long time until their quality control went to hell. I've not been back. My easy care jeans are mostly Lee and Lucky Brand.

I'll admit that I'm back to Levi's right now, but their quality did certainly suffer when they started outsourcing them.

Otherwise, it's been Lee for me.
