My Ford Pickup Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) is in the process of failing. The various reboot tricks aren't working. While looking for a new APIM for the Ford MyTouch (aka SYNC 2) system, I found kits to upgrade the APIM system to SYNC 3.4 for less money. Trying to retain the original MyTouch system would require me to take the car to the dealer to program the APIM to my Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). When you order the upgrade kit, you supply the vendor with your VIN, and it is programmed before it is shipped. That makes it plug and play for the purchaser. I picked up the kit on Amazon.

It can't get much worse. SYNC 2 (MyTouch) is to Ford what Windows Vista is to Microsoft.
SYNC 3.0 is an improvement to SYNC 2, the same way Windows 7 was an improvement to Vista.
I would compare SYNC 3.4 to Windows 7 with all the service packs. I know because my Mustang came with SYNC 3.0 and has had upgrades to SYNC 3.4. Hardware removal and reinstallation will take about an hour. The dealership would charge over a thousand US dollars just to put back in a SYNC 2 system. This upgraded SYNC 3.4 system is less than $500.

New Michelin tires for my 2003 Ford Crown Victoria. Not a lot of miles on the current tires, but they are 7 years old, the car is parked outside, and I picked up a nail in one of them near a sidewall that can't be properly repaired.
