Star Trek Discovery Renewed For Season 3

Good deal. Looks like it will last longer than TAS, and at least have as many seasons as TOS (but still less episodes since the seasons are shorter.) Season 2 has been a LOT better than Season 1 as well so far. I still don't know how I feel about the rotating circle of captains we have had and the focus being on someone who isn't the captain, but I enjoy the show quite a bit so far.

No I don’t, but woke, virtue signalling etc are mentioned at every opportunity. Why?.. I want TV to be entertaining without having to pick apart every aspect of it.

Virtue signaling is in the category of "SJW", it's a political tool made to ascribe the views of anyone who disagrees with them to personal ego rather than genuine belief. Saying that anyone who is on a side other than their own isn't doing it because they believe it, but because they want to be perceived as virtuous.

Whenever I hear anyone use either of those terms, I lose respect for them entirely, because it's basically them flagging that their position is so weak they can't defend it through actual debate.

Me: I'm still young!
Some Kid: That's woke!
Some Other Kid: SWAG! YOLO!
Me: ... No. No, I'm not. Face it. You're 40.

I'm a bit older than you, and i find 2 maxims that keep me in touch:

You never slow down, you never grow old (stole that from Tom Petty)
You're only as old as you act.

Which is why it's so funny when people get called leftists/SJWs/whatever and accused of virtue signaling.

FWIW accusing a production (like Discovery) of virtue signalling sounds to me more like an (unintended) critique of capitalism since the motive of the virtue signaller (is that a word) is usually ascribed to wanting to gain media attention/praise by leftists/all that stuff, which in turn the producers want because they want their production to make money.

Back on topic.

Six seasons and a movie!

For some reason, I think it'll actually do the seven. But the Finale will feel like a movie. It'll be interesting to see how they end it. Not that I hope to find out any time soon.

I just hope the don't split the final season in half. That's what they did with Battlestar Galactica, The Sopranos, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad. When they try to make one season look like two seasons, it cuts how much time you have to work with in half, and how in-depth you can go, because you have to write each half-season as if it's its own "season" with its own beginning, middle, and end.

One thing I like about what DSC seems to be doing of late is that it's beginning to really branch out with the characters. Taking Burnham off Discovery is really showing off the other characters of the crew as the crew. The expanding of the characters and the storylines is allowing the tapestry to become so much larger. So they'll need that entire season, by the time we get to the end.
