This episode effortlessly weaved malfunction of the week, exploration MacGuffin of the week, and monster of the week episodes into a single narrative and added a poignant parable about assisted suicide at the end for punctuation.

And Number One's lunch.
And there was a trepanning.
And fucking Bowie.
And the scene where Burnham and Saru walked off the bridge almost had me in tears.

This was basically what I've always pictured a Kelvin TNG episode would be like.

My first A+ of the show.

Oh wow. Burnham actually showing some emotion/humanity. Bravo. The episode was rather meh, though. And a Tilly episode next week? Ugh.

Discovery made a discovery thanks to Saru!

On another note, I have to quote this from Star Trek IV: "My God man! Drilling holes in his head's not the answer! The artery must be repaired! Now put away your butcher knives and let me save this patient before it's too late!" Glad I got that out of my system...

Stamets and May. Okay, this is weird.

Ditto. I also for a moment thought they were actually going to kill Saru. A 10 from me

Solid 9/10 for me.

I literally slapped my forehead and said "of course" when the problem was solved by reversing the polarity.

The possible implications this episode had for Saru's future, and for the future of his species is interesting as hell. I believe the producers already said we'll be making a return to his homeworld this season, so I'm excited to see how this plays out.

More Stamets and Reno interactions, please.

Did they give a name for the Enterprise’s engineer at the beginning? When Number One is giving the status update on the Enterprise?
