Red Angel Theories- Post Here

I have a feeling we will be seeing them before everything is done. And then Starfleet can redact all that info like with the MU to preserve canon. Hiding the Bad Vulcans from the rest of the Federation makes more sense than worrying that the MU will disrupt all of society (which it didn't after Kirk & the gang came back and presumably told everyone about it.)

This is pure speculation on my part, but I think the Picard Series is where we'll see the Romulans. So not too big of a deal if we don't see them here.

the ship was ancient, but the fact that he had to give the cloak to the other houses probably means it's recent.
I'm not-so-sure, but I think I remember that in the episode, it's mentioned that T'Kuvma's father is the one that acquired the ship through familial inheritance and it was implied that the Cloaking Device came with it.
But that still doesn't take away from the fact that his dad (or some past relative) got it from the Romulans.

The "seven" signal has no deeper meanings, it's just a sign of their battles.
I don't know about that. I wonder if the number of signals is meant to be symbolic in some way.

For example, the number seven is significant in the Judeo-Christian faiths. In the Bible it is used 735 times (54 times in the book of Revelation alone), If we include with this count how many times 'sevenfold' (6) and 'seventh' (119) is used, there are a total of 860 references. To many it represents the number of divine completeness.

The New Eden Logo also has seven stars on it, could that represent the seven red bursts?

The seven red bursts represent the seven seals mentioned in the Book of Revelation.
I had a similar thought back in May last year concerning the New Eden logo (link) but it seemed far fetched to me at the time.

It could also represent the seven churches, seven spirits, seven golden lamp stands, seven stars, seven lamps, seven horns, seven eyes, seven trumpets, seven thunders, seven heads, seven crowns, seven plagues, seven bowls, seven mountains, seven kings and seven angels. All of which appear in the book of Revelation.

E.g "And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them" Revelation 8:2

About the Angels:

The apostle John saw these angels in a series of dreams and visions, just like Spock.

With the exception being the book of Enoch (which names all seven), only two of these seven angels are named in the actual canon of the Hebrew scriptures, the Christian New Testament, and the Quran.

The most important of these angels is called "Micheal"

The second most important angel is called "Gabriel"

Micheal and Gabriel are obvious, which is fine because they're the only ones identified by name in the New Testament. (Though this assumes we actually ever see Issacs again.)
Edit: Sorry, I had not read your post before posting this :bolian:

After seeing episode 2...I suspect the Red Angel is somehow related to the group of aliens called "The Preservers"..from TOS "The Paradise Syndrome" and the Shaternerverse Novel? Think about it: In both episodes we have a group of humans brought to a distant planet..presumably to protect them, by unknown aliens. And so far..the signals have led the Discovery to somewhere where somebody was in danger.

And we were told in production staff comments that we would be seeing aliens from TOS...not seen since....

What's also interesting – and I'm not sure if this has been pointed out – is that the floating Ba'ul obelisk in “The Brightest Star” looked an awful lot like an upside down Preservers obelisk from “The Paradise Syndrome” and “Context is for Kings”. So maybe the Kelpiens aren't actually harvested, but somehow saved or relocated by the Preservers?

EDIT: Also, the Preservers' sign language we saw on the obelisk could very well be the same we see on the Ba'ul tablet. Unfortunately you can't really make out the latter. At least in the images I'm able to find online.

Wow, that's a cool twist...

I dunno about the Red Angel, but Discovery has now visited two out of the seven red bursts.

Actually, no.

The original seven were within 30,000 ly of each other. The two we have visited now were separated by 50,000+ ly. Dialogue suggests the first one was one of the seven - the one Pike thought they could reach. But the second one is introduced with "another signal has just appeared", and it doesn't meet the specs of the seven.

"New Eden" finally tells us that yes, these Red Things can indeed be seen with naked eye (Jacob saw this one) - and that yes, they are ignited at the very moment they are "needed", rather than 50,000+ years in advance so that their light would hit Pike's eye at the right moment (Jacob saw this one).

We furthermore get technobabble on how to pinpoint the "signal" that is being "transmitted" (their terminology), although none of it makes scientific or treknological sense. But at least we know it's a signal, and thus might be FTL like your average Trek signal. And that it reacts directly to what our heroes are doing - it doesn't blink away yet when they waste time measuring it from two spots five maximum-warp-seconds apart, but only when they actually arrive there.

Isn't T'Kuvma's ship and it's cloaking device very ancient?

We don't know for sure. The sarcophagi welded onto it range from ancient to recent ("thousands of years" to "hours"), but this does not mean the oldest ones were welded there fresh. The ship need not be much older than T'Kumva unless we get further data or story reasons to think it is.

The ship might be non-Klingon for all we know. And might or might not have had the sarcophagi on her hull when resting on that planet during T'Kumva's youth. Were T'Kumva's folks the despised gravediggers of old, disgustingly preserving corpses that the True Faith says are mere shells? Or even graverobbers who stole the big ship but couldn't be bothered to pry out and dump the bodies? Are all the corpses Klingon? None of this is ever explicated.

The ship yesy but something said made think the cloak was not. I had to pull up the episode on Netflix, but in episode 2, Voq says:

"This holy vessel soars once again because of my lord. He has even devised a way to hide it behind a cloak of invisibility."

That second part suggests to me, that the cloak was a recent addition.

After seeing that the Red Angels literally have the power to teleport WW3 survivors to the Beta quadrant--how many species can jump around the galaxy just like that? I know there are a few, but the first that come to mind are Organians, Q continuum, and maybe the Traveler. Trelane's species also?

Plus the Thaseians (sp?) from "Charlie X." Also, the Organians are super noninterventionist.

Hmm, to those of you bringing up the biblical angel references, (mentioning Michael and Gabriel) something just occurred to me. Wasn't there an early quote from Brian Fuller before we knew the protagonist's name, that it would be relevant in some way..?

I mean, we don't know how much influence Fuller's original ideas had over the development after his departure, but I suppose something could still be there, even now.

Yeah, it probably isn't Organians. I never understood how the Starfleet Command games went from non-interventionist Organians in TOS to Organian controlled Interstellar Concordium trying to brutally enforce peace on the galaxy.

Don't really see the need for Star Trek, of all places, to bring in Judeo-Christian stuff into the franchise because it just doesn't belong there. I would say literally the only place it might fit is if it's going to tie in Sybok somehow (then Spock's role might make sense), and given everything we know about film/tv rights and the lack of mention of Sybok so far when the rest of Sarek's clan has been revealed, there's no indication this is the case.

Even DS9 knew they had to make up their own Bajoran religion before tackling the topic (because our society isn't ready for it and tackling a real religion would just offend a lot of people, and I say this as an atheist myself). Star Trek has always been about using reason, logic, and science and delving into Judeo-Christian angels without them being aliens of some sort moves away from that. Hope that's not where this is headed.

Are we certain it's not just a new species/phenomenon?

Come on, you can't contradict the small galaxy trend that's permeated the Star Trek franchise for over 50 years! It's a tradition. ;)

My favorite examples of the small universe is how, in all of the Delta Quadrant, Voyager comes across a Q who leads us to DeLancie, and an out of control Maquis missile that just HAPPENED to be programmed by B'Lanna!

TNG's worst example, at least that makes me groan, is that Lore just HAPPENED to come across the ONE Borg that had encountered the Enterprise.

I mean, there was that time when they found a truck just floating in open space because they detected...what? gasoline? rust? I don't recall, but it was ridiculous.

I'm just glad that everything even tangentially related to Earth/Federation happened to be in the direct, presumably mostly straight-ish line, back to Earth from the Caretaker.
