Why is everybody assuming this will be American-centric? Maybe they will make good use of the shooting location for once and make the story Canadian-centric! I can't think of much significant Canadian presence in Trek since Eddington. It's been sorely lacking.

Eddington and they one kid in "Lower Decks" thought RIker was from Canada. Paris and Kim once wore hokey outfits. Shatner is from Canada. The shows have been overflowing with Canadian representation. What more could be asked of the franchise.:)

That's kind of neat. If only it came in Canadian colors of the state flag. Either way it's kind of pointy at the front. That could come in hand if the Kirk of that ship has to order Raming speed to stop a unstoppable alien threat.

Thanks for answering my question about Star Trek and religion. DS9 handled it pretty well. They did a lot right with that series.

Why are a bunch of mundane names on fake gravestones that will probably not be seen very clearly for the most part an issue? They were probably just picked at random, or maybe they are the names of people on the production crew.

As a person of colour with a 'anglo' surname I fail to see the racism or whatever is the problem here.

I would say a good deal of Vulcan lore in Trek is religious. Not in a theistic capacity but then religion does not inherently require deities (such as the Jain religion). The Kirshara Enterprise arc is very religious

It was, although you can sometimes call it simply alien exotic thinking for the sake of it. Problem with fictious religious systems is that like with many things, writer can do whatever, but it might be well used for allegory. I don´t know how much will Disco mention authentical Earth beliefs no matter how ancient, which might be interesting.

Not sure what to make of this set. It's being filmed on the site of a historic Church, which suggests the people living on that colony are meant to be 'culturally' Christian. Yet, the phrase “Glory to the first saved” would make no sense from a mainstream Christian worldview. The Phrase may suggest a deification of the founding members of their religious group/society.

However, what about the symbolism in the logo?

I have noticed that the colony logo contains seven stars. It may just be a coincidence here, but the number seven holds a great deal of significance within the Judeo-Christian faiths as it is perceived to be the number of divine completeness. For example in the book Revelation the apostle John has a vision containing seven churches, seven spirits, seven golden lamp stands, seven stars, seven lamps, seven seals, seven horns, seven eyes, seven trumpets, seven thunders, seven heads, seven crowns, seven plagues, seven bowls, seven mountains, seven kings and seven angels.

Having said all that, the circle, surrounded by two rings is reminiscent of the atomic whirl which is an atheist symbol. :shifty:

The colony logo also contains both a upright triangle (at top of logo) and an inverted triangle (at bottom of logo), which in esoteric and occult circles has various different meanings.

So from what I can deduce from this logo, is that this religious colony is an atheistic pseudo-christian group with possible occult overtones. :D

A good deal of modern Christianity would make little to no sense to a Christian of late-antiquity. Some of it would be bizarre to a theologian from 200 years ago.

I would be interested to read some specific examples of this. Although it may be better to PM me as I am sure others here don't not want this thread to turn into a religious forum.

I have studied theology, including the writings of the Church Fathers and I am certain that this would make no sense to a Christian in any century, from any mainstream denomination. From what I can tell, the phrase "Glory to the first saved”, is unique and the Discovery writers have come up with something original only to the Star Trek universe (see, they can be original :p). Typically you don't give glory to the people who have been saved, but to the one who saves.

Will it be religion or a cult? I could see them going Jonestown on the show. I'm also thinking of "The Villiage" movie which I know everyone hates because we all predicted the twist before the movie even got to it's second act but I kind of liked it. I wonder if their will be a alien pretending to be a God or Angel as well. If they want to pay homage to "TOS" the "God" they worship should end up being some super computer that Burnham has to destroy. They want to do a new angle on that "TOS" trope maybe she destroys the God computer and everyone instead of learning their lesson that they don't need God instead all kill themselves.
