I thought that's what he said, and checking my FB post I did hear that during the episode. Sorry about that.
Plus the roommate was a female Caitian:

"My roommate at the academy was part Caitian. And she was a year ahead of me, Burnham, but I told her what I'll tell you - just relax and let me do..." [bam]

So if the fanboy in me wants the Trek universe to be a tiny one, and one that also includes the animated series, let's say that his roommate was M'Ress.

M'ress is fully Caitian and I think she's only a Luietenant in 2268 or so, too young maybe to be the same character.

I'm just so glad they mentioned them at all. Maybe we'll see proper furred Caitians later on, they have the budget now and Saru proves a lot of prosthetics would work.

Darn.

Would people think I'm strange if I said that the "young pre-teen boy" me back in the mid-1970s found M'ress hot? I mean, that would be strange because not only was she animated, but she wasn't even human. I blame the new pre-teen hormones.

Edit to add: And no -- I did not grow up to be a "furry".

M'ress has always been a crush of mine, from the old days of watching the shows.

M'Ress could be an ensign in the Pike years

No, it implies intent. It does not demonstrate it as fact.

Regardless, I do not see it as any more, or any less, than the way Trek has handled deaths in the past, so this kerfuffle over it still eludes me.
People need to bitch about something.

If the show improves on the level of the best seasons of Trek I guarantee those folks will LOOK for something to complain about.

RMB once complained about the 2009 film depicting Vulcans as racist over the remark made about Spock’s mom being a disadvantage... even though Vulcans being snooty over non-Vulcans has been a thing since 1966.

I skipped over a few pages, so I apparently missed something. What has people upset about Conolly's death? He was an asshole, who didn't listen and got himself killed, I don't see the problem. I don't remember finding it funny or feeling like it was supposed to be, either.

I was all about Holly from Land of the Lost when I was a budding lad and first starting to notice the opppsite sex. :)
Yeah - my 11 year old self liked Holly from LotL; but I was hot for:

Maggie Cooper and Pamelyn Ferdin:drool: (the two girls pictured above) from:
Space Academy myself at that age: https://nostalgiacentral.com/television/tv-by-decade/tv-shows-1970s/space-academy/
:rommie::angel:;)

He was a white straight male. And to some people killing off a white straight male character in a fictional universe full of white straight males is basically the same as genocide.

the other thing I noticed is that people didn't get the joke and are now somehow angry about the realization that they have no humour.
