And technically the very first Enterprise officer killed onscreen was Lt. Lee Kelso, a man in a sand- or peach-colored Starfleet uniform who was telekinetically strangled to death by the mutating Gary Mitchell.
Jumping in for a quick review, very very busy to read all previous pages, I apologize if I repeat things that have been already said.
- I gave it a 6, still quite enjoyable but not as good as the premiere
- I find the mystery of the season intriguing. I like!
- I think the pace is too frenzy...maybe slow down a bit? just a little bit
- The A plot with another not advanced civilization and the prime directive dilemma (or whatever they call it in this universe) has been done again and again in ST and I got bored.
- I laughed every time someone called the bridge crew with their names, even with their first names
- Pike is still great
- Michael B is still annoying (but a tad less)
- Saru still rocks (well except with...)
- Tilly is still ANNOYING (yeah I literally screamed that on TV).
I am on the verge of re-starting fast forwarding all of her scenes.
If I had a crew mate like her in a starship I would have gone beserk.
How many people in military you have seen acting like her?
It is a sci-fi show and realism is not its big asset, but I really wonder How on Earth Tilly was accepted and remained in the SF Academy?
They have to tone her down.
And there was similar outrage to the current outrage about the Klingon redesign the first time that the Klingons were redesigned for TMP. it was confined to fanzines and letter pages back then as it was before the internet, but it was no different. So, it goes back a lot further than Deep Space 9.DS9 may be loved by many now, but when it first hit the airwaves it was:
- OMG! GR is rolling in his grave --- this show is so gritty/dark and the antithesis of "Gene's Vision"™.
- How can one 'Boldy Go' on a Space Station that sits in one place? It's the antithesis of "Gene's Vision"™.
- Sisko has the wrong attitude. Plus why is he mad at Picard. Picard was 'mind controlled' by the Borg and is sorry; and Sisko should be intelligent enough to realize this and not blame Picard. It's the antithesis of "Gene's Vision"™.
- Kira is a real Bitch and a religious nut. Why is Starfleet (who got the Station in the Cardassian treaty even allowing the Bajorians a say in how it's run? It's now a Starfleet Starbase and they need to toe the line. It's the antithesis of "Gene's Vision"™.
...and I could go on. Yet now 25+ years later DS9 is held up by some as the pinnacle of what Star Trek is; and is a beloved show of the Franchise.
So, yeah, Star Trek fans...

I give it a 7 (for context I rated 'Brother' an 8). I had some issues with the pacing of the episode, things felt a little rushed. 'Brother' was a prime example of how much Discovery can benefit from episodes being given a longer run time. Also I think the settlers on Terralysium got a bit glossed over and were a bit too plot-devicey for the sake of the red angel mystery. Also the actress playing Tilly's dead friend bugged me a lot.
What I liked:
- All of the FX shots of Discovery were GORGEOUS. The ship is really starting to feel like a character.
- Crew teamwork to solve a problem. Everyone had their moment to shine
- Good old fashioned 'lost colony' story
- Pike continues to be outstanding and I hope we get some more exploration of his religious side.
- I really can't predict where the Red Angel mystery is going. Why did they save a bunch of random pre-warp humans but allow WW3 to continue unabated?
- Mary Wiseman's delivery of the 'Donuts in a starship' line.
- Saru being sassy 'Run Mr. Stamets!'
What I liked:

Not to mention that Starfleet is not even a purely military force. I couldn't believe Tilly as a member of, say, the United States Navy or Babylon 5's Earthforce, but Starfleet's just as much of a research/exploratory organization as a military one... it even doubles for a diplomatic corps from time to time. Hell, it sometimes feels more like a research university than a stellar navy. It's a combined service, as Kirk called it. I don't expect an organization that generally looks the other way when officers date their own subordinates to expect full military discipline from its members.
It's all coming together.

The impression I got was that the actress was playing a child - that is, the personality is based on Tilly's memory of May, which is of a child - she has no idea what adult May is like. Especially the first conversation they had was very child like.
Saru was as good as any past Starfleet captain on this episode. They need to give him the extra stripe and the gold shirt next year.
It is said Sunday is the most segregated time in the USA when it comes to church attendance, I am surprised the church was as diverse is it was, unless terrified folks just went in there to shelter from the bombs or something. Or WW3 managed to unite the American populace.
I disagree, it only takes three generations to turn a black family into a white one and vice versa dependant on their choice of reproductive partners, also if they lacked medical skill they might not even live out their natural lifespan of threescore and ten years plus another twenty
