I definitely loved this casting though.

I think a big recurring question that we are going to hear over and over again soon is why is the terrible Georgiou getting a spinoff... and Pike is not.

He stole the show.
He probably is but they don’t want to reveal it yet.

Different nose, different chin. (Jk)

What would that show be called? Star Trek - Season 0? :)

No more After Trek? I thought that it was being re-tooled, not discarded.

Someone said it was on Facebook Live now, but I don't know anything about that. I just get an error message when I click on AfterTrek in my CBS app. I tried this morning to check some old eps, and just now.

Few quick thoughts...

I’m not a fan of the Discoprise having sat out the war. Although it does mean the Enterprise E sitting out the Dominion War is now just keeping with tradition.

Seems that it was way too easy for Burnham to access Spock’s quarters and personal logs.

Like Pike so far...love that he didn’t say engage.

As nice as it was to see the A-hole science officer get smashed, it seemed too easy. Like, “well of course we are setting up this arrogant jerk to get his, just roll your eyes at him and stick with us”.

@Kane_Steel: With your "gatekeeping" attitude re: Spock, long-running theater shows like The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables must drive you crazy.

Characters get recast all. the. time.

Prime Spock is a character that has been defined by one man. I'm good with alternate interpretations in alternate timelines, but if you're gonna call this Prime Spock, there needs to be visual and performance connections to Nimoy. I'm more focused on visual because Nimoy's Spock look is iconic. Performance-wise, there's room for some interpretation because Spock's past is quite vague between Cage and the rest of TOS.

We'll see if Speck is something that fans will embrace or reject.

In retrospect, it seems like the Quinto Spock was one that people were divisive or apathetic about. Paling in comparison to Nimoy, by leaps and bounds.

Will Speck share the same fate? We'll find out soon.

They tried in the mid 60’s to make a show about him. It didn’t take.

Really.... news to me

....huh.

As someone who mostly really liked last season, this seemed like a departure from much of what I found so compelling about Discovery, particularly in tone. I appreciated how different it felt from prior Trek entries. This doesn't feel so different, and I don't know how to feel about that. My friend (a total Trek newbie) found it "OK, I guess," after being delighted by last season. I wonder if it will play less well for the new folks?

I mean, I still quite liked it. I gave it an 8. But I find that I'm missing some of the seriousness. I guess it will be a learning curve.

Pike is an ill-defined character. Only appearing in 3 eps. Lots of room for new developments and depth. Nimoy's Spock's story has basically been written, in extensive detail... from The Cage.. till the end. He was a fully-formed and nuanced character.

The two are not the same.
Nope.

Either you accept interpretation an intrinsic element of art or you don't. Any preestablished foundation of the medium - especially when it's a person - is irrelevant because it's not something one can actually quantify. It's the same reason Geddy Lee can play with Yes and not have to sound like Chris Squire.

I reckon Spock and Michael fell in love, and also that the signals are where they're located on the map, but some are in different times and dimensions. I reckon we're going to be spore jumping around a bit!

Any actor who originates a character is going to "define" that role; that doesn't mean that no other actor can ever play said role or that any actor who might be cast to do so absolutely has to bear a physical resemblance to the actor who originated that role, because that's not how the casting process works.

I’m sure His portrayal as Spock will be fine. I just think it won’t be anything special without Kirk and McCoy.
Anyone know what type of ship the medical one was? The turbo lifts made it look massive
