Well, he's not Nimoy any more than Pierce Brosnan is Timothy Dalton. But it was - and is - close enough. And good enough for a glorified one-season-long cameo.

Well Bonds a different beast altogether. But let's see what becomes of Speck.

And for those who recoil at the sight of Vulcan facial hair: does nobody remember Spock's very own half-brother Sybok? A member of his own immediate family sported a beard when we saw him and he was not just a hybrid with an identity crisis but a full Vulcan.

Not bad. Pike's character was well done. It's nice that they didn't ignore the rest of the bridge crew like they did last season. He had them all introduce each other but really it felt like the bridge crew were introducing themselves for the first time. Still has the 30th century look to it. Advanced technology has no bounds in this one. Holographic drawings, holographic candles everywhere, the synaptic stimulator thing stamets was wearing, and pattern enhancers were all post-TOS but not anymore. Flying through space in their space suits while dodging rocks was cool... but when you think about it, it's just a gimmick we've seen how many times now?

Sarek was alittle out of character during the scene having the heart-to-heart with michael. Sarek trying to push humanity onto Spock? He didn't want him to go into Starfleet and now he's trying to help him learn how to interact with humans, doesn't make much sense there. They left last season off with seeing the Enterprise but didn't really see much of the inside of it, would have been nice. I'd give it 8/10 though.

You didn’t welcome. Don’t speak for everyone here.

Peck looks more like Nimoy then Quinta did anyways

Different face shape. Different jawline. Different lips. Different eyes. VERY different nose. Nimoy has a very specific look. That's part of the reason he was cast as this devilish alien.

Also, I'm noticing an interesting pattern with your posting. Do you just reply to be contrarian in all your posts? That's all you seem to do, it's amusing.

I thoroughly enjoyed that episode. There's one thing though that is making me scratch my head though... where is that launch tube for the pods! They traveled through that tube for some seconds. It looked like they were below the launch bay at the start, but it seemed to long! Discovery has tubes!

He wasn't in the episode. There's another thread to talk about Peck's future appearance as Spock.

He's also the main science officer, possibly Second Officer, and the Enterprise is a ship with only 200 crew. Maybe they all have double-sized quarters at this point in time.

Pike's cabin in "The Cage(TOS)" seemed to be bigger than Kirk's would be during the regular series. It could have just been a trick of camera angles but Pike's cabin in the original pilot seemed wider and more expansive than Kirk's.

That episode was so much fun! It was exactly what I wanted from modern series; JJ's bling but doing more traditional ST things. Guys, they were totally doing Star Trek things! And not just for the hell of it, but for Star Trek reasons! ...and even used all the Star Trek tech speak, while also looking fantastic. I mean, a rescue mission for a ship embedded in an asteroid on a collision with a pulsar? We might not have gotten the solution the TNG crew might have come up with, but it was damn entertaining anyway!

I definitely loved this casting though.

I think a big recurring question that we are going to hear over and over again soon is why is the terrible Georgiou getting a spinoff... and Pike is not.

He stole the show.
