They are really good! Bodes well for the new shows they have planned/
Good call on skipping the first one. For those who haven't seen them, my order of preference is:
1. Calypso
2. The Escape Artist
3. The Brightest Star
4. Runaway
Like TOS, you can watch them in any order. Escape Artist and Runaway apparently occur during Season 2, while Brightest Star is a prequel by about two decades and Calypso is in the far future. It's an actual Star Trek anthology series, with no ties between the episodes.

I really enjoyed them anyway, just being flung about to any point in the timeline to tell a story. Calypso and The Brightest Star in particular were ones loved the most.

So I spoke to TV Wise, and he believes the reason we didn't get the Short Treks internationally alongside the US is because Netflix wanted to release them on YouTube and social media for free, like they do with other shows's bonus content. This meant a delay window for international release.
CBS probably blocked plans for YouTube and social media, but Short Treks is still free internationally, just behind the Netflix gateway so it's not as noticeably unfair to US subscribers.
