As Deadline previously revealed exclusively, the show will center on Deborah Wayne (Maleah Joi Moon), the youngest daughter of Hillman College’s finest, Dwayne Wayne (played by Kadeem Hardison in the original series) and Whitney Gilbert (Jasmine Guy), as she enters her freshman year at their HBCU alma mater and finds the shadow of her parents difficult to escape. She sets out to build her own legacy – while having the time of her life – alongside a whole new generation of Hillman’s best and brightest.

It'll be fun to see how they try to avoid the subject of Cosby getting royalties from this.

If I had to guess, Netflix will have to pay him $$$$ as an executive producer, and then an additional $ to keep his name out of the credits.

Going from a multi-camera sitcom on a stage to a single-camera drama makes it feel more like a Bel Air type of remake than a continuation.

They would need to give Cosby credit for being one of the creators of the original show (assuming he was one of the creators), but they could bury that credit in a list of others if they want to. In any case, Cosby won't be an EP on the new Different World, so no need to give him an EP credit.

It'll be interesting to see how they bring the show into the present especially given the current political climate in the country. I quite liked the Blackish spinoff, "Grownish", and that wasn't even set in an HBCU. It was pretty fascinating to me watching 21st century college students. So, if this new Diff World is anything like that, it make get a second season.
