Oddly enough, while the Comic-Con and series model have the boxy bottom of the engineering hull, IIRC the leaked shots of the Discovery model built by the original VFX team had a more complex curved shape to it, but I can't seem to google it up to confirm my memory.
Or it could be something as simple as while she is standing there conversing, the two ships show up in-scene to tow the Enterprise. It could all be a 20 second shot, more or less.
Effects shots get updated after first looks in a promo all the time, worked on 'til the delivery date (as they should be). What's the big deal?
also i'm concerned that our opinion of the VFX in season 2 was shaped by unfinished shots in the trailers and that the final episodes will be just as overdone and ugly as season 1.
Oh no. I was so, so happy that the first trailer was much more natural-looking again. This new shot looks like Batman-v.-Superman-everything-has-to-look-smeared again. Shit.
Lorca just had the doors made of transparent aluminum because he was a dick and liked the thud of space-birds flying into them trying to avoid being eaten by gormaganders.
I don't see what you mean? They just changed the colour of the lighting. I don't see how it looks any less 'natural'. Huh? This lighting matches what we got on the bridge in the Season 1 finale. I don't agree.
Yeah, I'm not seeing it either. The new version is much more realistic for a shot through a transparent surface into space. You shouldn't be able to see such bright stars, and you should get some glare off the window. Also, these changes aren't the same kind of things we saw in Season 1. Bloom and chromatic aberration aren't happening here.
Agreed. Looks like someone just wanted to have moving VFX in the background of the shot versus a static ship so they just changed it. Could be the choice of the episodes director to better fit what they felt would make a more fluid scene. However that sepia filter change is annihilating my eyes....
