Captain Marvel (2019)

I want her to be the Supreme Intelligence and end up a giant head.
That's one possibility and the woman we see could be a projection of the Supreme Intelligence. I think the comics recently revealed Carol's mom was a Kree refugee and the Carol had been half Kree all her life. The movie could have the Kree looking for Carol's mom and even Carol herself right from the start. Jude Law's character could be bringing Carol from Earth after that crash and explosion that activates Carol's latent Kree genetic heritage.

Agents of SHIELD had the Kree around Earth in the past, not that the MCU has even paid attention to it at all. Carol could be part Kree already, the blood transfusion just enhances her latent Kree genes. Guardians of the Galaxy has already established that Earth has been visited by aliens in the past and Earth and humans are at least known to the rest of the galaxy. They even seem to have our old junk since Peter Quill was able to get a Zune and stereo equipment.

Yes, everyone except Kirk hates the source material. We are blasphemers for not taking the holy writ of Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway and Chris Claremont as holy gospel-canon and embracing the heathen Feige.

Some people actually like the source material. With others its like if I interrupted a thread about Soccer to do random, terrible hot takes about something I don't like or care about.

No one has to be a comic fan to like the Marvel movies, but if you're not you don't really get to complain about people who enjoy the actual characters not liking their destruction by hacks.

Because an adaptation does not mean faithful adherence to 50 plus years of comic book history. It literally means to change as a facet of putting in a new medium. Otherwise, I could claim Adam West as the original Batman and all others as blasphemy (don't tempt me-I might).

You probably wish the Hulk was Red, too (let's see if anyone gets that reference, and as a hint I'm not talking about the character of Red Hulk).

I love the original source material. I own a lot of it. I wouldn't trade it for anything. However, it is not the be all and end all of these characters. New interpretations (or "adaptations") are a key necessary component in keeping these characters vital and interesting to new readers.

And as I've said before, Mar-Vell is by far the least important piece of Carol's origin. He is a middle-man who would add nothing to the story, confuse casual viewers and invite more Green Lantern comparisons than it's already getting. Do you think Carol should also wear the stripper costume that she wore in her first issue? Also, in that first issue, which I am going over right now, Carol had amnesia and identified herself as "Kree-born" while in her Ms. Marvel persona. Hmmmm…

Even after her amnesia issues cleared up, she still tended to identify as Kree. Claremont had her use "Hala!" as an exclamation of surprise or anger for the rest of his run. She also had a soul-deep hatred of Skrulls that she claimed came from her history with the Kree.

Also, I'm not hyperbolic [...].

Speaking of amnesia and adaptations, I saw one reviewer who likened Carol's amnesia and fleeting memories with the Bourne films. The characters both start with trying to remember a past life and both recalling skills and abilities they didn't know they had. I doubt there is more than that superficial similarity but I have seen reviewers talking about the preview being origin heavy with too little action. Hopefully, the Skrull keep showing up to keep the action going like the Bourne films and we don't have an hour of just getting back story before the action kicks in.

I'm hoping that bit from Benning's character is sending Carol off to Earth to deal with the Skrull and also sets up her own personal search for her Earth side past so we get ongoing action like the Bourne films.

Why send Carol to Earth if it may trigger her suppressed memories?

That's either dumb, or Annette really didn't know where she was from... Or she was trying to help Carol?

She may not have been "sent" there at all. She may have been following the Skrulls that then shot her out of the sky causing her to crash an L.A. area Blockbuster. That she crashed onto her real homeworld may just be a very convenient coincidence.

The film could have the Kree Skrull war heating up in the area of Earth and Carol just got posted there. It's hard to tell but with the dark background, but I think the scene she is upside down and being zapped in the head may be her after being captured by the Skrull followed by her escaping and blasting the two figures in the later 'superior' comment scene. That head zapping might be what starts to trigger Carol's human memories. Benning's character could be explaining something after that earlier incident. Carol could be striking out on her own after getting that information and having the opportunity to drop in on Earth but gets tagged by the Skrulls in the area.

This is out there.

Every Kree who crashes on Earth has Carol programmed into their battle-suit, for a fall back personality, as an emergency kit.

It worked for ET, and he wasn't even blond.

Also, part of material adapting to the times.

Occasionally you get something totally out of left field that sounds like it can't possibly work, such as Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. And then it works amazingly well, and you can't imagine anyone else playing the character.

Or maybe you can yell about how Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is the same thing as Captain America being a pedophile and miss out on some great performances.

I never said you didn’t. Maybe you should think before reacting.

Back on topic, I love that Fury is a cat lover. That’s how I’m going to picture him from now on. He just goes from total hardass to total softy when he lays eye on a cat. We’re lucky HYDRA didn’t know about his only weakness.
I wonder what would happen if he ran into Tigra?

So many Funko Pops to choose from, I don't which one I want to get.

Best post ever.
God forbid anyone want to see a property they enjoy get adapted. No one has to compromise what they want to see because some people are apathetic to everything. People that just take whatever shit that gets made and complains when people point out that its shit are the same people who kept Michael Bay drowning in money.

Sometimes I worry that my love for the Marvel Cinematic Universe makes me overlook some of its flaws, then I see people exist that will support anything they do to the point of just attacking anyone who disagrees and I realize that I probably have the right amount of love for the MCU :vulcan:

You just said I don't like movies starring women. So, you know, maybe you shouldn't blatantly lie when a post on the very same page proves that you did...

i like how basically all the stuff I complain about is provable by trailer footage, but is somehow an "unfounded assertion". Also, I'm not hyperbolic, although I suppose people that either outright hate the source material or are just extremely apathetic might see it that way when they see fans of the source material sticking up for it over the crap adaptation.

If I actually believed the comics and the characters were being destroyed then I would be upset. But, like the Abrams' Trek films the originals that I care about still exist to be enjoyed. Otherwise, I could point to the destruction of Batman (stupid Keaton), the destruction of Robin (that might be more valid), the ruination of Chronicles of Narnia (Prince Caspian is a disgrace!), and on and on.

@kirk55555 , please take a mod's worth of free advice and cease trying to make this about you. Focus your energy on the actual subject, even when you disagree.

Congratulations, sir, you've won the internet for the year.

I remember people getting upset about him being cast because he was too tall. All that criticism died quickly once people got to see him in the movie and he became the most beloved aspect of those movies. Now some would rather the MCU not even show Wolverine because Jackman doesn’t want to play him anymore.
I'm glad there was no Internet when Keaton was cast as Batman. It might not have survived the announcement.

Don’t imply that anyone else is upset, it’s just you. The reaction to the movie is almost universally positive, except for pathetic losers who can’t stand any movie staring a woman.

Hang on a minute, here. I can’t leave this unchecked.

I have my concerns about the movie falling into the same Marvel tropes that we’ve seen time and again (punching, punchlines and an overly bombastic final CGI battle). But I believe and have suggested as much that Larson will be great. She’s been great in everything I’ve seen her in from her guesting on Community to her Oscar win in Room.

Lumping all critics together is not exactly fair.
