If we find out years from now CBS did it to save $1k cost per episode I’ll be very pissed... :(

Even most modern films have what they call a 2k DI (Digital Intermediary). Do even if they filmed on a 4k capable camera or used film everything is finished in 2k including effects . So those 4k movies I like to buy are upscalled to 4k, although the real Star is HDR there .

Before the advent of digital film making became the norm you will find those movies have 4k DIs so are true 4k .

The limiting factors today is the CGI. Rendering effects in 4k is costly and very time consuming. Unfortunately the Execs have shown they went short term profit instead of long term growth, look at all those TV shows from the 90s stuck in SD to save money by editing on video and they are doing it again with modern movies.

At least 2k scales upwards really well.

The Blu arrived today, but I think it's going under the Christmas tree.

My Blu should have arrived on Friday - if it was in 4K, that is. But it isn't, so it won't.
I'm really disaapointed by that. My DVD/Blu-ray shelf is full, so the only new releases I get these days are 4K Blu-ray releases, and I was really looking forward to adding this to that collection.

I can't believe they wasted this opportunity.

So you'd rather pay more for 2K in a 4K package? And I keep all my Star Trek discs together. DVD/Blu-ray/4K.

But no Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 track. The audio is only DTS-HD MA 5.1 channel.
It should have been mixed in Atmos from the start.
at least you have foreign language tracks (German, French, Italian, Castilian, and Japanese 5.1 Dolby Digital).

It's nice to have the season "in hand" now so I don't have to mess around with/rely on streaming. Everything looks and sounds great. The extras are a mixed bag as they never dwell on the interesting stuff for very long, and you'd be drunk if you played a drinking game of them using the word canon. Comes across as a little defensive if you ask me. ;)

That would've been a great purchase price.

At Best Buy it was the only Blu-ray to have a "Certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.com!" sticker on it. :p

No longer available on Blu-ray from Amazon.com. Not even a page for it saying "out of stock". Still available there from mainly British and German third party sellers. Looks like either a very limited US print run, or Amazon has already liquidated its stock.
