I agree JL was the suits attempt at realigning the DCEU version of Suoerman; and FWIW I thought they succeeded at that, BUT for while JL was probably their best DCEU film behind "Wonder Woman"; I was disappointed they pulled Darkseid out of appearing because they didn't want to risk being 'locked' into a sequel.
Yes, you've been clear enough that you're talking about a different subject than the rest of us are. Getting things right requires listening, not just repeating your own assumptions more loudly.
Wouldn't that be something. He get's cast as Captain Britain. Cavill- Finally! I get to use my real accent!
This is almost certainly PR spin on the real situation, which is the cost of insuring Affleck on the production now, after his latest rehab stint, would be prohibitive. Affleck is basically in the same position as Robert Downey, Jr. in the mid-2000s -- unaffordable to the production on blockbusters, having to do small indie films where he can go uninsured.
I don't regard "Wonder Woman" or "Justice League" as the DCEU's best films. And he hasn't yet, because all he is doing is mimicking Chris Reeve's interpretation. Thank you for reminding me that when it comes to certain characters or stories, people like you have no imagination or tolerance for something different or challenging. As long as the studios and production companies keep kowtowing to the likes of you, pop culture will continue to rut in a pool of mediocrity.
Wow - thanks for that - I was on the edge of my seat specifically wondering EXACTLY how you felt about these two films. But then again, I never said you did. I said I did.
"The likes of me" literally made me LOL, so thanks for that. Didn't actually know my opinions on funnybook movies could constitute such a personal affront.
I don't see it that way at all, they're just both doing/did comics accurate versions of the character.
Comics accurate version?? Bullshit. This strikes me as nothing more than a too lavish display of nostalgia for Chris Reeve's performance and nothing more. Hardly anyone was bitching and moaning about how Superman should be portrayed as some one-note hero before Henry Cavill took over the role. And the comic book Superman - especially in the last two decades or so - has been a lot more complex than some boy scout in a blue leotard. Why are so many afraid of the idea of Clark Kent aka Superman having complex emotions like everyone else? What are they afraid of?
Strawman, much? Nobody here, or anywhere, said that Superman can't have complex emotions. It is, however, probably fair to say that most folks feel his primary emotions shouldn't be misery and confusion. Positive emotions are emotions, too, you know. It's the province of self-dramatizing 14-year-olds (and film directors and fans who think like them) to believe truth only lies in darkness.
A non-white Superman is possibly a dumber idea than having Jonathan Kent telling Clark that saving a busload of drowning kids was NOT necessarily the right thing to do. All it would be is Hollywood forcing their political correctness and doing their race baiting so that their sheep gets to call anyone who objects to the lunacy a racist and be fake outraged. Just like it did with Fantastic Four, and just like it did with Ghostbusters, the casting will cause a backlash, which will affect the movie's grosses. It's just ridiculous. There are plenty of non-white characters that are great. And there are plenty of non-white characters that have yet to be created that will be great. Superman is a white guy.
I think you're attributing too much importance to vocal fan opinion. The studio suits don't care about that nearly as much as we do. They're looking at their line graphs.
Don’t mistake your feelings about a role for Cavill’s. You don’t know if this is as important to him as it is to you. If it was, he wouldn’t be negotiating so hard and taking a role that removed him from playing Superman for long stretches at a time. Race baiting. Lol. See, now, I want to see a person of color play Superman—really no reason he can’t—just so I can watch the internet burn as fan boys get their panties in a twist, being all triggered because it’s not “their” Superman. Lol. Ghostbusters didn’t fail because it was a female cast, Fantastic Four didn’t fail because of a black Johnny Storm, they were both TERRIBLE movies.
Ghostbusters wasn't that bad, actually (no worse than the old GB movies), but it certainly never had the makings of a hit, regardless. And I rather strongly suspect that any hypothetical black Superman movie, just by sheer force of novelty, would bring in more box office than Justice League.
I don't think I prefer a non white Superman, there are enough collored super heroes to chosen from. Like a sequel to Hancock
Yes. Race baiting. That's all this is. And yes, there is a reason a person of color can't play Superman. The character is white, and the only reason to do it is race baiting. But your own response proves the point. You want to enjoy the reaction to the race baiting. And hate to break it to you, but yes, Ghostbusters and Fantastic Four failed in part because of those decisions. They had strikes against them. Maybe we should recast Black Panther with a white actor. Then you can watch the internet burn.
Oh, I disagree. The constant diversion because of improv deflated any sort of tension. Whereas the original Ghostbusters was focused funny and exciting. GB2 is a terrible movie. A desperate grasp for money. Possibly. It would certainly have an interesting PR ride.
What part of Superman’s story requires him to be white? None. What part of a king of a secretive African nation that has existed for centuries that was never conquered by Europeans requires him to be black? All of it.
