We've got our first clip for Season 3, so this seems like a good time to start the new thread.

The frog key chain cracked me up, I always love it when they throw those little mundane bit's into these kinds of extraordinary situations.

Michael’s joy over a combination Taco Bell/Pizza Hut is wonderful.

Yeah, that was great. Ted Danson's Michael continues to be one of the best parts of the show.

I also find it interesting that
it is confirmed that we are in an alternate timeline where our main cast did not die. So there is no fakery with virtual reality or anything. Michael really did go back in time and save them, creating a new timeline. I wonder if most of the season will actually take place on Earth in this new timeline? That would be a big departure from the premise of the show which is supposed to be about the after life. Or maybe, the season will start on Earth, and we will see them make different choices but then the rest of the season will fast forward to after they die and are back in the Good Place. It might be interesting if this was the final season and we see our characters truly become good and in the series finale, finally make it into the real Good Place. Personally, I think it might be cool if in in the series finale, the characters earn their place in the real Good Place but they've grown so attached to each other and Michael that they request that he create their Good Place neighborhood.

This show us thrown so many wild twist and surprises at us, that I can't even begin to guess where it's going to go.

One theme I haven’t seen the show touch on yet. All four human main characters did all these crappy things on Earth but all the flashbacks paint a story of the motivation being weakness and damage rather than maliciousness.

I wonder if the writers are stealthily calling out people’s attitude on mental illness. It’s US sending them to the bad place because we take their actions at face value.

I don't know, it might have just been their way of having them do horrible stuff, but still make them at least a bit sympathetic.

Maybe, but I would say, if you were to unprofessionally diagnose them:

    Eleanor - Avoidant attachment style
    Chidi - Anxiety disorder
    Tahani - Inferiority complex
    Jason - ADHD, developmental disorder

These things made them cause pain to people around them, and the point system that Michael has called into question does what most people do - judge them by actions at face value sans context. And all the flashbacks gave us this context.

I’m not saying this is the main intent of the writers, but I think maybe it’s one of the things on their mind.

This is more likely in my opinion. By making them somewhat sympathetic, it makes them more redeemable in the end. Whereas, if the show had depicted them as truly mean or evil, then we'd actually be rooting for them to stay in the Bad Place instead of going to the Good Place. This way, we feel like an injustice has been done to them and we hope they make it to the real Good Place in the end.

Also, season 1 wouldn't work if they were unquestionably horrible people. There had to be a reasonable possibility that some of them might actually belong in heaven.

But I do really like the idea and I think even though it probably wasn't intended from the start, it would reallu be worth commenting on in the show anyway.

I think you have a point. I do think that the main idea of the show and more so in the upcoming season, will be that the point system is inherently unfair because it assigns a fixed point to actions devoid of context and without the possibility of redemption. According to Michael, the whole of this experiment will be to see if people are able to change and become good, given the right "push". In other words, did the characters end up in the Bad Place only because of points they earned as a result of choices they made largely influenced by their environment and given a slight change to that environment, they might have made different choices such that they earned a place in the Good Place instead. If this hypothesis is proven correct, it will have proved the unfairness of the point system.

Interesting, sounds like they were teasing another big twist when it cut off.

Can't wait till the return of the best sitcom on TV. If it has a great season 3, it will pass Parks and Rec as my favorite Schur show.

The promo reminds me of an episode of Highway to Heaven.

Just want to remind everybody that the 1 hour season premiere is tonight. I didn't even realize it was going to be a full hour I saw it on TV Guide.

I loved that reveal at the end. Just think of the mayhem that Adam Scott is going to bring to our characters! Should make for a great season. I also like that they are changing things up a bit each season and keeping things new and interesting. So it appears that Michael is definitely an ally now and will try to help our characters against Adam Scott. I thought it was a strong season premiere. It had some funny moments and it did a great job of getting us interested in the rest of the season.

A great start to the season, it was fun seeing the character's struggles to be better people while on Earth. I actually liked the fact that they pretty much all started out right trying to be better right after their accidents, only to fall back into their old habits.
I'm curious if Adam Scott showing up is connected to Micheal's boss trying to spy on them. Could he have sent him down to sabotage Micheal's plan for Eleanor and co.?

I loved Tahani's reaction to Eleanor not liking her sister.
