New animated show announced... Star Wars: Resistance

Oh yeah, that's for sure from the same people that did the Tron animated show. The style is a little off-putting in a Peter Chung kind of way, but I suspect the eye becomes used to the odd proportions and the sense of looking at everything through a fish-eye lens before long.

I don't like the character designs, but the actual aesthetic and art style is nice.

Yep, I wouldn't have recognized Poe Dameron anymore actually.

The animation style itself looks quite good to me, the humour seems to be very annoying. Hmm, we'll see about that. I was or actually I am a fan of The Clone Wars, but I don't like Rebels too much, a least according to what I've seen from that show so far. So I hoped that this will be better and well, it still can be. But I'm much more looking forward to seventh season of The Clone Wars ;)

^ Truth, and the same.

I'll definitely try to watch this, but I don't think this will be pique my long term interest like Clone Wars did. I still haven't gotten around to watching Rebels.

Didn't think the tone (humor) or the aesthetic would be so contentious.
I've stopped watching Forces of Destiny but not for the dorky animation - for the choppiness of it's episodes. Star Wars doesn't translate to 2 to 3 minute shorts for me. There's no escape, no immersion. If Resistance can sustain itself for 22.5 minutes, I'm on board.

These are some very mixed reactions in this thread. I have trepidation going to watch this trailer now... [swallows hard, goes to find link]

Holy Jesus... the likes/dislikes. 1.9k up and 1.4k down. Is there going to be a thread about this? (of course there is) This is veering into Lady Ghostbusters Sheboot territory.

I watched the trailer and I was left feeling a little 'meh'... The animation style borders on anime, but I think it can grow on me. The visuals set aside, I'm not sure about the characters and the setting. Pretty 'meh', but I guess I'll have to watch an episode or three to get a good feel before deciding to vote 'keeper or dump it'.

Q2

It's now 2.9K up / 2.8k down. Upvotes are not gonna make or break the show, but be prepared to endure another wave of discussion ad nauseam "toxic Star Wars fans melt down over YouTube likes... blah blah blah etc"

Reaction: Now that I've gathered the gumption to actually watch it - I think it looks good. The foolishness that others have noted... to me, Rebels seems waaaaay goofier than this, I think it's the way it was edited to make it seem sillier. Not keen on the color palette. The greens look out of place somehow.

My only concern is the lack of TIEs. But I'm sure we'll get them. EDIT: There are! Weird looking ones but the blaster fire is the same. Check the :48 mark.

Perhaps the core story of this show will be
The Resistance spying on the First Order and their activities and growing armada, maybe culminating in discovering The Supremacy being constructed in the Unknown Regions. Poe seems to recognize the ship in TLJ.

Trailer gets a meh from me, though I did like the young pilot asking "what's with the screaming, throwing and falling?" and Poe responding "try not to think about it."

The negative reactions are no different than Rebels and CW, which I am guilty of. I love the animation. Very well done and about time anime made it's way into SW. It is a bit too Disneyish though. Not a fan of Poe or Phasma, but in Filoni I trust. However, it's very difficult to get excited about this when the Clone Wars conclusion is coming next year. I think that accounts for a portion of negative responses.

I was caught by surprise by the different animation style compared to Clone Wars. I guess I just took that for granted. This is pretty to look at, though. Can't judge much else from a teaser.

This. Plus, even though I knew what was coming, the difference still jarred me. Honestly, knowing how Filoni takes his time getting things going, I won't be able to judge this series until season 2. It will likely be nothing like how it starts.

I'm hoping the trailer is weak because they want to keep something a secret...because as it stands now, the trailer definitely brought down my interest. Will reserve judgement 'til I see the first ep, of course. :)

Filoni isn't involved with the day to day operations of the show, he's in a mentor like role here.
He gave them his story and idea and told them to get to work. He's basically what George Lucas was for TCW.

His main focus is the new Clone Wars season.

So right now, Resistance is a bit different, in that I'm not on that day-to-day. I created and set it in motion, but I've given that to other people to raise up, people that I've worked with a long time, who I think deserve the opportunity to tell stories and I think it's exciting, and I give them my thoughts and notes – I was just doing that this morning, like George would give me. So that's fun.

If Filoni does anywhere near as good a job in that role as George, that's good enough for me.
