Star Wars: Starfighter (2027)

i did not even know this star wars movie is gonna be based after episode 9

so wouldnt this new one be called star wars episode 10 starfighter

Shawn Levy told On Film...with Keven McCarthy (quote courtesy of World of Reel) that he had to reshoot the ending because it didn't work out, but he's ultimately happier with the new idea:

We had a whole different idea for something in the third act, and then things didn’t align, and I was forced to come up with a new idea. And I’m literally right now shooting that section of the movie. And every day, I’m grateful that the way I was supposed to do it didn’t work out, because the new idea that it forced me to explore is so much better than the original idea would have been.

I have no hope for Star Wars: Starfighter for the same reason I have no hope for the upcoming Star Trek movie written and directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.

The writer, Jonathan Tropper, has only written comedy movies:
  • This Is Where I Leave You (2014) - comedy drama
  • Kodachrome (2017) - comedy drama
  • The Adam Project (2022) - science fiction action comedy
  • Matchbox (upcoming) - action adventure comedy
  • The Wrecking Crew (upcoming) - buddy cop action comedy

The biggest red flag is Shawn Levy and Jonathan Tropper previous collaboration, "The Adam Project":

A Marvel humor-laced science fiction action comedy.
And the Russos did nothing but sitcoms and comedy movies before they did their Marvel movies.
Plenty of writers and directors have started out mostly in one genre and then eventually spread themselves out into other genres.
It depends if it is a Saga film or a side story.

i wonder which one its gonna be
There's not need to wonder, it's not a "saga" movies, it's a standalone story unconnected to the Skywalker Saga.
The Skywalker Saga ended with The Rise of Skywalker, so there will be no more saga movies. Well, at least for now, obviously plans could change.
Does it matter? All I care about is if it's a good film.
I feel the same way.

That's the example I was trying to think of. Thank you for bringing them up.

And sure there are other great examples of exactly this.

The Star Wars have always had a lot of humor in them, going all the way back to A New Hope, so bringing in directors with comedy experience really isn't that horrible of an idea anyways.
