New animated show announced... Star Wars: Resistance

When does he make issue with Holdo’s look? I’ve only seen the movie twice so I need a refresher there.

I don’t see how disobeying them makes him a misogynist, he would have done the same thing if they were male.

This.

Plus, the word 'misogynist' is being misapplied here. If he was disobeying orders strictly on the premise that his superior officers were female, that would be chauvinist or sexist. Misogyny is an irrational hatred of women, which no character in any SW movie that I can recall has ever displayed. Just because Poe doesn't think that Holdo has the 'look' of a famous general doesn't mean he automatically hates women- it just means she wasn't the way he imagined her based on reputation.

His actions throughout this movie were insubordinate, mutinous, and worthy of demotion/ court martial. They did not somehow signal an irrational hatred of women.

I would think the Ezra-Thrawn thread would be picked up in other media for a resolution. However the effects of said resolution could impact Resistance at some point.

It is not outside possibility that we could see said characters, but I don't think we will see the resolution of the cliffhanger in Resistance, just its aftermath.

I am fully prepared to have Thrawn be part of the First Order, or even be his own thing (returned to his home systems to defend them from whatever is coming), or part of the legal remains of the Galactic Empire, rather than the illegal First Order. Ezra could be training Jedi in the Unknown Regions, or he could go the Ahsoka route and be a non-Jedi who is still basically a Jedi...thus allowing for another path that is not the Jedi or Sith, nor the path of Kylo Ren. If Ahsoka is still around, she's be in her late 60s. Not that that might mean much for her species.

The rest of the Ghost crew may or may not have any meaning for the story. Zeb's probably gone by now, or retired with his people. He'd be in his 70s. Hera's in her late 50s or early 60s by now. Sabine's likely in her late 40s or early 50s. Erza, assuming no time travel shenanigans, would be in his late 40s. Rex and the remaining Clones should be died by now, as their bodies would look like they are well over a 100. Chopper.....is a droid, should be still be annoyed at life, but he has hobbies and working with the Syndula clan. If the Ghost itself is still operational, is could be the best freighter out there right now, since the Falcon is, well, out of commission.

Depending entirely on when in the timeline the series starts. The Resistance started roughly six years before the events of TFA it seems. Poe was born during the Galactic Civil War, thus would be of combat age in the New Republic at least seven or eight years before the Resistance forms. His story about finding out about the First Order has been told, and that was after the Resistance was formed (I think). So I don't imagine the show will start too much before the events of TFA. No more than five years, and probably closer to two years as imagine they might want to attempt to tie in this series with Episode IX after the end of next year. Other Resistance groups and all that.

Thinking about the idea that Resistance is set 30 plus years after Rebels, I'm not sure I really want the story to pick up the Ezra threads. It just seems like far too convenient and small universe-y to do so. Unless they do something crazy like make Ezra Snoke.

(Please don't make Ezra Snoke.)
I think the Ezra= Snoke thing has been put to rest. Snoke is called 'an ancient evil from the Unknown Regions' or something in the TLJ Illustrated guide.

There's no way the TV series would be allowed to explain Snoke unless Lucasfilm were absolutely certain that they had no plans to address Snoke in any way in Episode IX.

I'm a bit surprised we didn't get any more Resistance news at SDCC. I was expecting to get at least a little something at the Clone Wars panel, but instead they made the big announcement for that show.

Looking forward to Resistance! :)

Note: also looking forward to seeing the Clone Wars: Lost episodes completes - as per the SDCC teaser.

Yeah, this show is expected to premiere in October or so, right? We really should be getting a trailer any time now, I should think.

One imagines Disney are holding it back for D23 next month (?). Would also explain the very low-key Marvel presence at SDCC.

Since the tweets are gone now, heres a screen shot:

Polygon Pictures will be animating the series!!! I know not everyone will be on board their cell shaded 3d models, but give it a try! They've got a real REAL good handle on big and epic action sequences, and their animation techniques are some of the best in the CG anime medium! You guys should check out BLAM! on Netflix to get a taste of it. Battle Angel Alita will appreciate its influence on the production design. I haven't seen them do anything as brightly colored as the Resistance teaser visual, so this is pretty exciting! I can't wait to see what they end up doing.

I would only be happier if Land of the Lustrous' Studio had been chosen, but it looks like Polygon also worked on Clone Wars, so it makes sense.

Their work (from what I've seen of it, namely the Godzilla anime movies) is pretty good for what it is. Cel-shaded 3D has advanced to the point that it looks almost indistinguishable from really well-drawn 2D animation, but it still moves more like 3D, and while I can get used to that, it's not what I'd ideally like to see.

Still, I was never crazy about the overly bouncy character animation of Rebels, so a new approach can't hurt.

They did Tron Uprising, which looked incredible.

IIRC, I found the character animation in that rather awkward. It was tolerable because the characters were supposed to be computer-generated constructs, but I wouldn't call it great. Their animation on the recent Godzilla movies is much better, though it still has that 3D look that I'll never like as much as hand-drawn 2D animation.

I still find cel-shaded 3D animation off-putting. I can tolerate it, but I'll never like it as much as traditional animation. Somehow I have an easier time with regular 3D, I guess because it isn't trying to look like 2D. But I still like 2D best of all.

Otherwise, the trailer doesn't tell me that much, except that it seems to be very light on female characters, which for me is not a plus.
