Clone Wars is returning!

Well based on the trailer they updated the old clone wars models, they're higher quality.
Sure, but like I said, that's post production work. On a normal show, an episode's budget includes everything that happens *before* the animation files get sent off to the render farms too. Concept work, story meeting, planning, screenwriting, shooting, scoring, voice work. It all adds up and if you're able to not have to pay for most of that by dint of a lot of it already being done, you can then apply that difference to asset creation, cloth & hair simulation, render times, lighting effects passes and the like, making for a much prettier product, for basically the same cost.

Disney's streaming service doesn't launch until Fall 2019, so we're going to be waiting at least a year.

Hmm... damn I thought more Star Wars: The Clone Wars would be the perfect lead-up into Episode IX. It would make the wait much better because we have a Star Wars void this holiday season. Fall 2019 is cutting it close but with 12 episodes I guess it's doable, huh?

There is still that new animated series coming this fall.

Ah yes indeed. Thanks for the reminder. Well, in the past 16 hours or so I've having trouble keeping my concentration in the here and now.

I read somewhere that the show wasn’t going to end with the battle of Coruscant but actually a few months after that. I know the Mandalore thing with Ashoka and Maul was during Episide III But I don’t know what they could do after that, in relation to the Clone Wars.
They could always do a bit of set up for what we saw of Ahsoka, Maul, and Rex & Co. after the end of the war.

From what's already been released regarding the (until now) unproduced episodes and what was mentioned in the Ahsoka novel, that should already be a part of the SoM arc.

If I had to guess, I'd say Order 66 goes off right in the middle of the fight with Maul (or very shortly after his capture) and all hell just breaks loose, with the entire final episode being Ahsoka running for her life.

The more I think about it, the more I think they probably won't be producing the already released "story reel" episodes, because of all the story beats they'd need to hit from where the show originally left off, *before* getting to the Mandalore arc. Ahsoka's walkabout, the "under the temple" stuff, Rex Wolffe and Gregor removing their chips, at least the cliff-notes version of Maul's "Son of Dathomir" arc. 12 episodes sounds like a lot, but if this is really all they're going to do that doesn't leave a lot of room for...well not filler or fluff exactly, but lets just say "episodes not directly leading into the finale".

Isn't "The Bad Batch" rather integral to the buildup to Order 66? It's specifically about the discovery and coverup of the clones' hidden programming. So if the goal is to focus the season specifically on stories that lead up to the grand finale, then I'd think "The Bad Batch" (which is where the completed clip is from) would be one of them.

Except the fact the trailer showed they're doing that.
Not necessarily. The swoop-in shot is taken from the second Bad Batch episode, but it's been modified, presumably to suit the needs of the trailer. Given that we're over a year out from release and the way Filloni was talking made it sound as if they were only just starting to get final shots back, it's possible that this shot was just done as a test run and not something we'll see in the 12 episode order.

The Ahsoka scene is something I can see him doing first, specifically because he'd know he'd need it for the announcement trailer.

I think they were to have something to do with Rex discovering what Fives uncovered, but the four Story Reel episodes themselves only introduce the batch and feature the return of Echo. So the other Order 66 episodes would have been at least another two or three episode arc.
Add that together and you'll end up with at least 6 episodes, which is half the entire season.
Seems a bit unlikely they'll dedicate all that time to just getting the Bad Batch thread set up, only leaving one or two to set up Ahsoka and Maul's threads prior to SoM.

How many seasons did the Clone Wars have? I heard 5 but iTunes has 6 seasons listed. I have never seen them all so I plan on catching up before it returns.

It was five. The sixth is the dozen or so "lost" (read: unaired) episodes that Netflix (IIRC) bought after the show was cancelled.

This info from a guy on reddit, but it checks out (sources included, Celebration panels and Pablo's tweets mostly) What's nice about this list is that it correctly places the episodes using the production codes, giving a sense of when the episodes would have come out in relation to each other. It's worth noting that Dark Disciple would have taken up half a season with 8 episodes and that it would be split over two seasons.

Season 6:
1-13: The Lost Missions (available on Netflix)
14-17: Bounty Hunter Arc with Cad Bane and Boba Fett
18-21: Crystal Crisis on Utapau (available on starwars.com)

Season 7:
1-4: Ahsoka's Walkabout
5-8: The Bad Batch (available on starwars.com)
9-12: Dark Disciple (available as a novel)
13-16: Kashyyyk arc featuring the bad batch and Yoda
17-20: Son of Dathomir (available as comic)

Season 8:
1-4: Rex/R2-D2 arc
5-8: Dark Disciple part 2 (available as novel)
9-12: Sith temple arc featuring Ahsoka (placement unknown)
13-16: Yuuzhan Vong arc (placement unknown)
17-20: Return to Mon Cala
21-24: Siege of Mandalore with Ahsoka and Maul (Series finale).

Was the Yuuzhan Vong thing really going to be it's own arc? I got the impression that it would have been a one-off thing, maybe featured in one episode of a larger arc. Also, I'm not sure I buy that the "R2 & Rex get into a Top Gun inspired competition" would have taken up four whole episodes. Two, max. I also wouldn't be surprised if the two Ahsoka arc were only two episodes apiece either.
